This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• The Mechanical Integration Engineer will possess a thorough understanding of manufacturing processes related to thermal components, as well as a solid grasp of thermal design and analysis, to lead and manage the mechanical systems vital for the functionality of Data Center Infrastructure.
• This position will require the development of specifications, selection of key components, arrangement of components, determination of fastening methods, and transition of designs into manufacturing.
• Furthermore, the role includes spearheading the implementation of testing processes and the selection of equipment to uphold the highest standards of operational excellence and reliability.
• Must have a robust background in liquid cooling technologies utilized in data center design and construction.
• Serve as the subject matter expert for all issues related to single-phase and two-phase liquid cooling applications within hyperscale data centers, including primary and in-rack cooling solutions.
• Expertise in both enclosed and facility-based cooling systems is essential.
• Experience with current Cooling Distribution Unit (CDU) technologies is required.
• Ability to articulate operational expectations for Liquid Cooling (LC) Racks, Manifolds, and other LC infrastructure (including Pressure Ratings, Temperature Ranges (in/outlet), Flow Uniformity, and Durability).
• Proficient in testing concepts for leaks/mitigation, hydrostatic pressure validation, flow resistance analysis, and corrosion assessments to meet international standards such as ASME and ISO.
• Familiarity with High-Density Liquid Cooling (HDLC) products used in global data center applications.
• Extensive knowledge of rack manifold manufacturing, design, and function (including Machining and Welding, Surface Finishing, Material and Surface Treatments, Post-Production Cleaning, Flow Optimization, Thermal Expansion, Connection Interfaces, High-Point Vents, and Low-Point Drains).
• Review CAD/Technical Data Packages to ascertain and confirm mechanical design requirements for components and their roles within a system environment.
• Responsible for understanding product specifications, plumbing, and hydronic systems to lead reviews with all disciplines, ensuring that the design and components fulfill performance and applicable code requirements.
• Capability to evaluate thermal data gathered from engineering or manufacturing tests to validate product compliance with thermo-mechanical requirements, testing, and modeling.
• Knowledgeable in fabrication practices and installation of copper, stainless steel, and aluminum piping for large-scale cooling systems.
• Understanding and conducting stress and flow analyses to ensure piping systems can withstand operational conditions without failure.
• Collaborate with project managers on design quotations.
• Provide technical insights to identify and mitigate project risks that could affect project plans and timelines.
• Conduct component selection for pipes, fittings, and valves based on criteria such as fluid type, temperature, pressure, and corrosion resistance in chillers, HVAC systems, and liquid cooling loops.
• Work with cross-functional teams to design and ensure system compatibility and integration for liquid cooling systems at the rack, site, equipment, and system levels, including water chillers, heat exchangers, Air Handler Units, and more.
• Capable of preparing technical specifications for piping components and systems, including testing procedures, installation instructions, and maintenance guidelines.
• Utilize CAD tools, CAE tools, and equipment for engineering tasks.
• Assess and optimize manufacturing assembly processes by designing, modifying, and testing manufacturing methods and equipment, consulting with equipment vendors, and gathering feedback from the production team.
• Skilled in creating detailed mechanical designs of components, sub-assemblies, and system integration.
• Able to generate a Bill of Materials (BOM) for release to manufacturing.
• Conduct tests, debug, and validate mechanical systems while supporting manufacturing processes.
• Manage relationships with mechanical component vendors and contract manufacturers.
• Stay informed about the latest technologies and methods to ensure competitive and cost-effective designs.
• Collaborate with your manager to suggest potential R&D project ideas that enhance competency areas.
• Engage with management and production staff to evaluate engineering feasibility and cost-effectiveness.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field is mandatory.
• A minimum of 8+ years of experience in mechanical system integration is required.
• Demonstrated history of successful system designs and implementations in a relevant industry.
• Strong comprehension of mechanical systems, integration strategies, and system coordination.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities and meticulous attention to detail.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills are essential.
