Senior Principal Engineer, Supplier Quality

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Proactively oversee Supplier Quality risks to minimize supplier-related issues.

• Collaborate with the supply chain to assess supplier risk, capacity, and strategic alignment.

• Ensure supplier process and product quality, encompassing contractual, regulatory, and technical compliance.

• Engage directly with supplier personnel and possess the knowledge to evaluate both supplier quality and manufacturing processes and procedures.

• Guide suppliers on advanced quality tools (FMEA, SPC, MSA, 8D) to enhance their processes and capabilities.

• Perform product and process verification activities, track supplier quality performance, and lead root cause corrective action analysis for supplier quality challenges.

• Assist in the upkeep of the approved supplier list and periodically assess supplier performance to decide if suppliers should continue on the approved list.

• Oversee supplier requests for waivers, deviations, and manage the discrepancy reporting process.

• Lead root-cause investigations for field failures and non-conformances, directing cross-functional 8D teams towards resolution.

• Keep management updated on supplier performance, quality status, and associated risks.

• Analyze quality trends and present insights to senior leadership.

• Travel to suppliers for source inspections, quality audits, special process audits, and oversight as necessary.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline.

• At least 8 years of experience in quality and/or engineering.

• Proficiency in inspecting hardware and interpreting engineering drawings.

• Experience in auditing special processes and performing source inspections.

• Familiarity with facilitating Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives.

• Background in the defense industry, including engagement with suppliers and program management.

• Experience in a supplier quality role and competency in using SAP.

• Knowledge of the ISO 9001 / AS9100 Quality Management System certification process.
