This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Develop and implement a multi-year cloud architecture strategy for EVERFI's platform, ensuring alignment between infrastructure direction, business growth, product roadmap, and scalability objectives.
• Oversee enterprise-wide architecture reviews and set cloud governance standards, guidelines, and best practices to be utilized by all engineering teams.
• Assess and analyze emerging technologies (such as AI/ML infrastructure, FinOps, and platform engineering tools) and provide forward-thinking recommendations to VP and CTO leadership.
• Act as a technical decision-maker and escalation point for intricate, cross-functional cloud architecture issues.
• Propel the transformation of EVERFI's platform from reactive infrastructure management to proactive, resilience-oriented platform engineering.
• Design, construct, maintain, and monitor internal PaaS systems in the cloud on an enterprise scale, emphasizing high availability, fault tolerance, and cost-effectiveness.
• Lead the deployment of geographically redundant, multi-region, and highly available architectures that can accommodate EVERFI's growth trajectory.
• Architect and supervise the complete lifecycle of cloud deployment tools, ensuring that CI/CD systems are continuously refined for speed, safety, and an enhanced developer experience.
• Create reliable, interoperable components and utility libraries that support EVERFI's applications across engineering teams.
• Design and manage a comprehensive metrics, monitoring, and observability system that enables full-stack visibility, proactive incident response, and SLA compliance.
• Ensure all cloud environments are designed and managed in alignment with company security policies, SOC 2 compliance standards, FERPA, and relevant data privacy regulations.
• Architect zero-trust networking, identity and access management (IAM), and data encryption frameworks throughout EVERFI's cloud environments.
• Collaborate with Security and Legal teams to conduct cloud risk assessments and facilitate the remediation of architectural vulnerabilities at the platform level.
• Serve as a senior technical advisor to Engineering, Product, and Executive leadership regarding all cloud infrastructure choices, translating complex technical trade-offs into clear business implications.
• Promote an engineering culture by establishing and advocating for best practices regarding reliability, performance, and operational excellence across all teams utilizing cloud infrastructure.
• Develop training programs, playbooks, and knowledge resources that enhance engineering teams’ skills in cloud operations, architectural patterns, and performance optimization.
• Represent the Cloud Architecture function in cross-functional planning, capacity modeling, and strategic workforce design conversations.
• Provide mentorship, technical advice, and career development assistance to Principal, Staff, and Senior Engineers on the Cloud Architecture team and related teams.
• Engage in hiring processes, technical interviews, and calibration discussions as required.
• Participate in an on-call rotation to offer emergency incident support as necessary, exemplifying the expected standards of operational excellence for the team.
• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a comparable combination of education and experience is required; a Master's degree is strongly preferred.
• Over 10 years of progressive professional experience in cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, or systems architecture.
• At least 3–5 years of experience operating at the Principal or Staff Engineer level, with a proven record of ownership over enterprise-wide architectural decisions.
• Demonstrated success in leading large-scale cloud transformations, platform modernizations, or migrations within high-growth SaaS environments.
• Experience in EdTech, FinTech, or industries with stringent compliance requirements is strongly preferred.
• Certifications (Preferred): AWS Solutions Architect – Professional (or equivalent Azure/GCP professional-level certification), AWS Security Specialty or Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP), Kubernetes Administrator (CKA) or equivalent.
