This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Japan.
• Collaborate with renewable energy developers, investors, and stakeholders in Japan to gain insights into grid connection challenges and pinpoint opportunities.
• Take the lead or actively participate in initial client discussions, including the technical positioning of AFRY services.
• Assist and engage in business development efforts, which include proposal creation and technical discussions.
• Establish and sustain relationships with key stakeholders, such as developers, utilities, and industry participants, in conjunction with the existing AFRY Japanese team across various departments.
• Conduct simplified power system assessments, addressing grid connection feasibility, system constraints, and congestion (load flow analysis), as well as curtailment analysis.
• Utilize engineering judgment to evaluate grid risks and opportunities, particularly in scenarios with limited data availability.
• Aid in early-stage project evaluations where detailed simulations have not yet been necessitated.
• Contribute to the execution of grid connection and transmission studies for renewable and storage initiatives.
• Assist in the development of clear and structured technical reports tailored to client expectations.
• Convey technical findings to clients, including those without specialized knowledge.
• Collaborate with the AFRY international T&D team for in-depth modeling and simulation tasks.
• Convert Japanese grid practices, requirements, and constraints into concise technical inputs.
• Analyze and interpret study results (load flow, short-circuit, stability) to ensure consistency with the Japanese context.
• Support the enhancement of AFRY’s service offerings in Japan (e.g., grid curtailment studies, interconnection advisory).
• Contribute to market intelligence and the discovery of emerging opportunities.
• Generally, 8–15 years of experience in power systems, transmission planning, or grid connection studies.
• Experience within the Japanese power sector (utility, developer, EPC, or consultancy) is highly preferred.
• Strong understanding of Japanese grid connection processes and utility practices.
• Familiarity with the practical challenges faced by renewable developers in Japan.
• Experience in renewable energy integration, grid constraints, or curtailment challenges is a significant advantage.
• Comprehensive understanding of power system fundamentals (load flow, short-circuit, stability concepts), transmission planning, and grid connection procedures.
• Knowledge of power system operations and dispatch mechanisms, grid congestion factors, and curtailment logic, as well as renewable integration challenges.
• Capacity to conduct pragmatic engineering assessments and interpret study outcomes.
• Familiarity with power system tools (PSS®E, DigSILENT Power Factory, or equivalent) is advantageous.
• Proficiency in Japanese is required.
• Capability to communicate in English with international teams and clients (both written and spoken).
