Senior Platform Engineer – Data Retention & Privacy

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in France, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• You will take ownership of the Data Privacy Orchestrator, the platform relied upon by over 15 areas and more than 1 million members for the secure handling of personal data.

• Your role involves creating safe-by-default abstractions at scale and empowering each area to manage its own data lifecycle, reducing reliance on a single individual.

• You will be responsible for overseeing the platform, including its core engine, safety mechanisms (such as preview/dry-run and audit trails), and ensuring operational health (including deployments, on-call duties, and observability).

• You will create the paved road: providing documentation, templates, and self-service tools so that any area can integrate and manage its own data rules, thereby building capability rather than performing the work for them.

• You will act as a bridge among areas: aligning legal, security, data, and product teams on requirements and managing deletion-ordering trade-offs, ensuring accountability for each area's data.

• You will expand coverage across data stores and third-party systems as Alan grows into new countries.

⛳️ Requirements

• We are seeking senior or staff-level backend or platform engineers, hiring at level E or above. We value evidence of deep production ownership over years of experience.

• You have designed and managed platforms, libraries, or services that other engineers rely upon, and you are mindful of the contract you present to them.

• You are adept at collaborating across multiple teams and influencing without authority: working with legal, security, data, and product teams who do not report to you to align on a plan and drive it to completion.

• You demonstrate pragmatism under constraints: delivering robust, safe solutions and enhancing them over time instead of waiting for perfection.

• A strong advantage: previous experience with privacy, GDPR, or data governance, along with a background in an enabling or platform-team operating model.
