Senior Platform Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the design, implementation, and management of shared Resource Plane services utilized throughout the organization.

• Manage and enhance Kafka, RabbitMQ, Redis, and Elasticsearch platforms in a production environment.

• Implement SRE principles to guarantee the availability, scalability, reliability, and secure upgrades of stateful systems.

• Develop and sustain Infrastructure-as-Code and GitOps-based automation for provisioning and lifecycle management.

• Establish and uphold supported usage patterns, guardrails, and best practices for platform users.

• Integrate Resource Plane services into the Internal Developer Platform for self-service access.

• Engage in an on-call rotation, which may initially include a 24x7 weekly schedule; the target state is business-hours coverage.

• Lead incident response, conduct root cause analysis, and drive reliability enhancements for the services you own.

• Work closely with the Kubernetes Platform Team, IDP, and other teams as needed.

• Serve as a senior technical authority in architectural discussions and platform roadmap strategy.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or Information Technology.

• Extensive experience at a senior level in managing production-grade, stateful distributed systems.

• Strong practical knowledge of Kafka, RabbitMQ, Redis, and Elasticsearch.

• Proven track record of operating infrastructure predominantly in on-premises settings.

• In-depth understanding of Linux systems, networking, and storage fundamentals.

• Significant experience with Infrastructure-as-Code, preferably using Terraform.

• Familiarity with GitOps workflows and declarative infrastructure management.

• Solid understanding of reliability engineering principles (SLOs, error budgets, alerting, capacity planning).

• Experience with platforms and services adjacent to Kubernetes.

• Capability to work independently and assume responsibility within a small team environment.

• Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in designing shared platform services utilized by multiple product teams.

• Knowledge of IDP concepts and developer self-service platforms.

• Experience transitioning on-premises workloads to cloud-native or hybrid solutions.

• Familiarity with security, compliance, and governance considerations for shared infrastructure.

• Previous roles in staff or principal-level technical leadership positions.
