Senior Platform Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Kenya.

📋 Description

• Accountable for creating exceptional software solutions that enhance our real-time data platform.

• Ensure the uptime, performance, stability, and scalability of Ajua’s platform.

• Design, guide, mentor, and challenge system architecture and design collaboratively with others.

• Develop, maintain, and scale a premier public API.

• Create the most robust, extensible solutions based on feature requests.

• Experience with data processing technologies such as Kafka, Hadoop, Spark, etc.

• Collaborate with Data Scientists to develop valuable features.

• Work alongside DBAs to establish ETL and Data Warehouse systems.

• Partner with Operations to automate solutions and enhance service reliability.

• Experience in Machine Learning and utilizing large-scale data repositories for business intelligence; app development experience is a plus.

• Diligently monitor all production systems related to the platform.

• Participate in periodic On-Call duties.

• Thoroughly analyze requirements; recommend and develop solutions that address the genuine pain points of customers.

• Conduct testing and unit testing to ensure high-quality deliverables.

• Continuously and proactively acquire technical skills and knowledge, and assist the team in doing the same.

• Accurately document all completed development work.

• Provide strategic guidance and advice in a genuine partnership with executive leadership.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or a related engineering field.

• Over 8 years of extensive engineering experience relevant to the role.

• Strong foundation in data structures and algorithms.

• Expert-level proficiency in at least one JVM language, preferably Java.

• Advanced knowledge of JVM internals, JVM Runtime, JVM GC, and performance tuning.

• Advanced comprehension of the Spring Framework, Spring Boot, and Spring Cloud.

• Profound understanding of applicable unit and integration testing, as well as testing frameworks.

• In-depth knowledge of both Relational and Non-relational databases.

• Strong grasp of the big data stack, including Hadoop, Kafka, Spark, etc.

• Excellent understanding of Linux and networking principles.

• Familiarity with containerization and orchestration technologies, particularly Docker and Kubernetes.

• Strong working knowledge of the AWS Cloud computing platform.

• Contributions to Open Source projects are considered a plus.
