Senior OpenStack Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Poland.

📋 Description

• Design production-grade OpenStack environments encompassing controller, compute, and storage nodes.

• Architect high-availability control planes utilizing HAProxy, Keepalived, Galera, and RabbitMQ clustering.

• Develop scalable cell-based Nova architectures.

• Execute multi-region replication strategies.

• Conduct platform capacity modeling and growth forecasting.

• Compute Virtualization (Nova) - Optimize Nova scheduler tuning and filters.

• Implement CPU pinning and isolation.

• Align with NUMA topology.

• Configure HugePages.

• Manage live migrations and evacuations.

• Facilitate GPU passthrough and SR-IOV provisioning. The hypervisor stack includes KVM, QEMU, Libvirt, and VirtIO.

• Networking & SDN (Neutron) - Utilize ML2 plugin architecture.

• Deploy OVS, OVN, and Linux Bridge solutions.

• Implement VXLAN, Geneve, and VLAN overlays.

• Design DVR and L3 routing solutions.

• Create Floating IP NAT designs.

• Accelerate with SR-IOV and DPDK.

• Integrate with BGP EVPN, MPLS, VRFs, and SD-WAN.

• Storage Engineering Ceph (Primary Requirement) - Manage RBD block storage.

• Oversee CephFS and RGW object storage.

• Tune CRUSH maps.

• Optimize placement groups.

• Enhance BlueStore performance.

• Implement NVMe and SSD tiering.

• Additional experience with Linstor, DRBD, iSCSI, and NVMe-oF is preferred.

• Image & Lifecycle Services - Manage Glance image pipelines.

• Optimize QCOW2.

• Automate with Cloud-init.

• Manage golden image lifecycle.

• Identity & Access (Keystone) - Model RBAC.

• Integrate with LDAP/AD.

• Facilitate SAML/SSO federation.

• Manage token lifecycle.

• Orchestration & Automation - Create Heat orchestration templates.

• Automate with Terraform.

• Develop Ansible playbooks.

• Implement CI/CD for infrastructure. Deployment frameworks include Kolla-Ansible, OpenStack-Ansible, TripleO, and MAAS/Juju.

• Kubernetes & Containerized Control Planes - Operate OpenStack on Kubernetes.

• Execute Helm/Operator-based deployments.

• Troubleshoot pods and persistent volumes.

• Bare Metal Provisioning (Ironic) - Manage PXE/iPXE pipelines.

• Conduct hardware introspection.

• Integrate with MAAS/Foreman.

• Observability & Reliability Engineering - Monitor with Prometheus and Grafana.

• Manage ELK logging pipelines.

• Conduct incident response and RCA.

• Track SLA and tune alerts.

• Upgrade & Lifecycle Management - Manage major version upgrades.

• Conduct rolling compute upgrades.

• Execute database migrations.

• Implement zero-downtime patching.

⛳️ Requirements

• 8–12+ years of experience in Linux systems engineering.

• 5+ years of experience in OpenStack production operations.

• Strong expertise in KVM virtualization.

• Networking knowledge: BGP, VXLAN, EVPN.

• Experience in Ceph production operations.

• Database expertise with MariaDB/Galera.

• Messaging experience with RabbitMQ.

• Automation skills in Ansible/Terraform.

• Scripting proficiency in Python/Bash.
