This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.
• Design, engineer, and manage highly scalable CI/CD pipelines for automated testing, digital-twin dry-running, and zero-downtime deployment of configurations across extensive physical and virtual network fabrics.
• Advocate for the "Network-as-Code" approach, creating enterprise-wide GitOps workflows and ensuring source control (Git) serves as the definitive single source of truth for all network state, policy, and infrastructure design.
• Propel the strategic vision for network automation by crafting complex, reusable code frameworks and Playbooks to permanently eliminate manual configuration and operational "toil" on a global scale.
• Design and enhance large-scale software-defined networks (SDN) and container networking interfaces (CNIs) that support ultra-high-throughput, multi-region cloud, and bare-metal environments.
• Act as the primary technical expert (SME / Tier 4) for intricate network, routing, and overlay challenges, quickly analyzing and resolving the most complex issues across physical underlays and software-defined layers.
• Develop and execute next-generation telemetry, monitoring, and alerting-as-code platforms, utilizing advanced heuristics for proactive auto-remediation of performance, security, and capacity challenges.
• Collaborate strategically with Enterprise Designers, SRE leaders, and Platform teams to construct and implement highly resilient, secure, and multi-tenant-isolated network infrastructure.
• Set coding standards and author/review advanced Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) using Ansible, Terraform, Helm, Python, and Bash.
• Lead the engineering, deployment, and optimization of cutting-edge overlay and container networking solutions, especially VXLAN, OVN (Open Virtual Network), and Project Calico.
• Automate complex security and traffic management policies across enterprise-grade firewalls (Palo Alto/Fortinet) and load balancers (F5 BIG-IP/Cloudflare/Octavia).
• Integrate "Security-as-Code" directly into CI/CD pipelines, constructing automated validation gates for security groups, ACLs, and firewall rules prior to production deployments.
• Design robust, automated network validation suites to continuously monitor network health, state, and intricate routing tables (BGP, OSPF) before and after deployment.
• Promote the use of code-based infrastructure definitions and dynamic, living technical documentation (e.g., NetBox, Git Markdown), establishing documentation standards across the engineering organization.
• 8+ years of progressive experience in Network Engineering, DevOps, or SRE roles, with a strong emphasis on large-scale network design, automation, and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC).
• Expert-level proficiency in developing complex network automation tools using Ansible, Terraform, and Python (including extensive experience with network-specific libraries like Netmiko, Nornir, or NAPALM).
• Profound design and operational knowledge of large-scale software-defined networks (SDN) and overlays, particularly VXLAN, OVN, and Project Calico.
• Advanced expertise in Kubernetes networking designs (CNIs, Ingress controllers, Service Mesh, Kube-Proxy behaviors) at an enterprise level.
• Extensive experience in engineering and automating enterprise edge, routing, and security fabrics, including Cisco Nexus (9k/7k/5k/2k), Arista, Versa SD-WAN, and firewalls (Palo Alto and Fortinet).
• Authoritative understanding of API-driven application delivery and load balancing across both monolithic and cloud-native environments (e.g., F5 BIG-IP AS3, Cloudflare APIs, Octavia LBaaS).
• In-depth knowledge of Linux internals and networking, including advanced concepts of Linux network namespaces, virtual interfaces, eBPF/iptables, and kernel-level routing.
• CCIE-level (or equivalent) expertise in core routing protocols (BGP, OSPF, MPLS, EVPN) and a comprehensive understanding of how virtual/container overlay networks correspond to physical underlays.
• Significant experience designing and scaling CI/CD platforms (e.g., GitLab CI, Jenkins, GitHub Actions) and implementing test-driven development (TDD) for infrastructure modifications.
• Exceptional troubleshooting skills employing advanced packet analysis (tcpdump/Wireshark), NetFlow, and log aggregation platforms to trace asymmetric routing and microburst traffic across hybrid fabrics.
• Proven experience in technical leadership, including mentoring mid-level engineers, leading design review boards, and spearheading cross-functional engineering initiatives.
• A strong telecommunications background—particularly in VoIP, RTP, SIP peering/trunking, and Session Border Controllers (SBC)—is highly advantageous.
• Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to executive stakeholders while nurturing a collaborative, DevOps-oriented engineering culture.
• Five9 embraces diversity and is dedicated to building a team that reflects a wide range of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills.
• The more inclusive we are, the better we perform. Five9 is an equal opportunity employer.
