This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +1 more state.
• Establish and enhance Superhuman’s motion design language, which includes UI micro-interactions, onboarding processes, feature unveilings, loading animations, and branding elements across both product and marketing.
• Create, prototype, and deliver high-quality micro-interactions and transitions that effectively convey state, direct attention, and enliven our product.
• Utilize AI-driven motion tools—such as generative video, creative AI, and LLM-assisted workflows—as a fundamental aspect of your conceptualization, iteration, and production processes.
• Develop and uphold motion guidelines, principles, and a shared repository of reusable animation components that support other designers and engineers in implementing motion consistently.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to ensure animations are accurately and efficiently executed in production, with an in-depth understanding of Lottie, CSS animations, and React-based animation libraries.
• Investigate innovative motion concepts that advance the potential experience of Superhuman’s product by using prototypes to convey ideas prior to their actual development.
• Guide and mentor other designers in the art of motion and foster a culture that values thoughtful and consistent application of animation.
• Possess over 6 years of motion design experience with an impressive portfolio showcasing true expertise in UI/product animation and brand storytelling.
• Be proficient in After Effects and have practical experience with at least two prototyping/motion tools, such as Rive, Principle, Framer, Runway, or Weave.
• Demonstrate strong fluency in Figma, including Figma Motion, Smart Animate, and interactive component prototyping, while being adept at navigating intricate file structures.
• Understand the implementation of animations in code (Lottie, CSS, React Spring) and collaborate closely with engineers to bridge the gap between design vision and production reality.
• Exhibit exceptional taste in timing, rhythm, easing, and the emotional impact of motion, recognizing the distinction between a great animation and a merely adequate one.
• Communicate your design choices with clarity and confidence, effectively explaining the rationale behind a transition's effectiveness and its alignment with the brand, or why it might not be.
• Nice to Have:
• Experience in 3D motion or node-based motion with tools such as Cinema 4D, Blender, Spline, or Houdini.
• A background in interaction design or UX prototyping alongside motion design.
• Familiarity with developing AI-assisted motion workflows or custom pipelines.
