This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Utah.
• Lead or assist in technical and cost evaluations for transactions, lender’s/owner’s engineer assignments, and investment decisions.
• Evaluate estimating foundations, assumptions, pricing, quantities, contingencies, risk allowances, and schedule drivers.
• Generate review outputs that highlight key risks, sensitivities, recommended modifications, and confidence levels.
• Create or assess mine closure and rehabilitation cost estimates from conceptual through definitive stages.
• Construct estimate frameworks for earthworks, demolition, water management, tailings/WRD, monitoring, revegetation, and long-term care.
• Aid in the development of closure strategies and identify opportunities for cost and risk reduction.
• Prepare or evaluate CAPEX and OPEX estimates for mining and mineral processing projects.
• Develop quantity take-offs, pricing build-ups, escalation, indirect costs, contractor mark-ups, contingency, and risk analysis deliverables.
• Contribute to mining strategies, mine development options, production scheduling concepts, equipment selection assumptions, and operational philosophies.
• Assess mining trade-offs and convert them into costs and financial implications.
• Create and maintain DCF, NPV/IRR, scenario, and sensitivity financial models that connect technical drivers to economic outcomes.
• Offer insights on production, recovery, cost, sustaining capital, closure, and schedule value levers.
• Engage with clients, facilitate workshops, clarify scopes, and present results to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Mentor junior team members in estimation techniques, modeling disciplines, and QA practices.
• Implement QA/QC on models and estimates, ensuring traceability, version control, peer review, and auditable assumptions.
• Advocate for a safety culture and support safe delivery planning for site-based assignments.
• BA/BS degree and 8 years of relevant experience, or a demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
• Senior-level mine engineering judgment.
• Strong financial modeling skills.
• Practical expertise in cost estimating.
• Experience in reviewing and adjusting mining project cost estimates for due diligence (preferred).
• Experience in constructing operating financial models for mining operations (preferred).
• Background in developing long-term mine plans and related physicals and strategies to meet long-term objectives (preferred).
• Ability to navigate technical, commercial, and risk factors.
• Capacity to clearly communicate findings to clients and internal teams.
• Must be available for in-person onboarding on Day 1 at an AECOM office.
