Senior Mechanical Design Project Manager – Data Center Construction

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colorado.

📋 Description

• Offers support and reports to the designated Project Manager(s) or Project Director.

• This role involves frequent engagement with the Owner/Client, consultants, design professionals, and contractors.

• Directly assist the Project Manager(s) in overseeing, coordinating, and managing the project throughout all stages of design and construction, focusing on leadership in electrical and mechanical system design.

• Responsible for ensuring that all facets of client services are delivered at the highest standard to meet the client's needs, including providing technical guidance on concurrently maintainable electrical power and mechanical systems.

• Contributes to the preparation of documents (reports, schedules, invoices, RFI’s, submittals, meeting minutes/agendas, daily reports, change orders, inspections, closeout, and client presentations) for programming, design, and construction, and assists in maintaining information within project management software.

• Coordinates the scheduling of meetings with the project team as instructed by the Project Manager(s).

• Communicates conceptual designs and creates/maintains project documentation before, during, and after construction, including MEP design standards, basis of design updates, and OFCI equipment specifications.

• Maintains the Basis of Design, prototype design, and template specifications for electrical and mechanical systems, ensuring alignment with changing business and operational requirements.

• Reviews and informs design RFPs, including developing scopes for MEP engineering services.

• Manages external design consultants throughout the design and construction phases, ensuring MEP contract documents are completed on time, within budget, and in accordance with company standards.

• Effectively communicates design standards to both internal and external project partners, including engineering and operations teams.

• Manages multiple fast-paced projects simultaneously, providing strategic technical leadership in electrical and mechanical design activities.

• Thinks creatively to find innovative solutions before and during the construction process to minimize costs without compromising quality, reliability, or energy efficiency.

• Supports procurement through vendor submittal reviews, factory witness testing, and evaluation of OFCI equipment.

• Identifies and implements innovative technologies to enhance energy efficiency, system resilience, and cost-effectiveness.

• Remains current with industry advancements and applies best practices to improve functional operations and project outcomes.

• Communicates and enforces engineering and design policies throughout the organization.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical), Architecture, Construction Management, or a related field.

• Experience in Project Management for large-scale construction programs, including data centers or mission-critical facilities.

• Proficient in MEP design, electrical and mechanical systems, and engineering leadership.

• Strong working knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit, Bluebeam, and MS Office Suite.

• Experience in overseeing the preparation and approval of MEP contract documents created by third-party design consultants.

• Comprehensive understanding of concurrently maintainable electrical power systems, mechanical cooling systems, and OFCI equipment specifications.

• Exceptional presentation skills with the capacity to excel in a client-facing role.

• Team-oriented; able to collaborate effectively across engineering, operations, procurement, and project management teams.
