This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.
• Offering specialized guidance on intricate accounting matters (e.g., revenue recognition, leasing, financial instruments) and documenting findings in technical memorandums.
• Creating and upholding global accounting policies, ensuring uniformity throughout the organization and adherence to updated standards (IFRS).
• Leading initiatives for the implementation of new accounting standards.
• Collaborating with commercial and product teams to assess the accounting effects of new products, lending options, and complex transactions before their launch.
• Overseeing the management of technical inquiries, strategically prioritizing and assigning project tasks to leverage existing and foster the technical skills within the broader finance team.
• Establishing, coordinating, and presiding over an internal technical accounting forum to discuss, align, and obtain approval on areas of accounting estimates and judgments, as well as new policies/standards.
• Serving as the primary technical accounting partner for the business, converting complex technical standards into actionable business advice.
• Leading the technical discussions with external auditors, crafting robust accounting documentation to justify and defend Monzo’s reported positions.
• Cultivating and sustaining effective working relationships with internal stakeholders, external auditors, and advisors.
• Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, or CPA) with over 5 years of experience in accounting policy, technical accounting, or Big 4 accounting advisory.
• Strong, hands-on expertise in IFRS, particularly in specialized areas such as IFRS 9.
• Proven experience within a banking institution or a Big 4 banking/financial services advisory firm.
• Demonstrated ability to manage workloads across a team, leveraging external skill sets rather than operating in isolation.
• Capacity to facilitate technical discussions and drive consensus among senior leaders and cross-functional teams.
• Strong ability to translate technical standards into clear, professional, and practical guidance for non-financial stakeholders.
• Excellent prioritization and organizational skills to effectively assess proposals and maximize the existing capabilities of the broader team, while also further developing those skills.
• Proven capacity to remain resilient and adaptable in a fast-paced, technology-driven, and agile environment.
