This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Engage in state regulatory proceedings to deliver comments and other advocacy documents that support the company's positions.
• Represent the company’s interests before staff and various stakeholders at state commission meetings, ISO/RTO stakeholder committee gatherings, and at FERC.
• Monitor initiatives (such as rulemakings and proposed tariff modifications) in 2-3 wholesale electric markets, take part in stakeholder meetings within those markets, and identify and advocate for positions that align with the company’s business objectives.
• Collaborate closely with the Voltus Energy Markets team on all advocacy and regulatory policy efforts in wholesale markets and at the state commission level.
• Determine a strategic approach when required, either independently or in collaboration with trade associations, to impact initiatives and collectively advocate for reform.
• Serve as a public advocate and spokesperson for the company's interests by participating in stakeholder meetings, drafting comments, and engaging with key individuals (e.g., Commissioners, RTO personnel).
• Gain a deep understanding of our business by collaborating across departments (Energy Markets, Operations, Engineering, Sales, Finance) and leverage that knowledge in advocacy efforts.
• Cultivate strong relationships with stakeholders, including regulatory commissioners, federal agencies and officials, state energy officials and legislators, ISO/RTOs, environmental groups, and consumer and trade associations.
• After an onboarding period of 3-6 months, take charge of responsibilities with minimal oversight from the Chief Regulatory Officer.
• 4-5 years of experience in energy policy or regulation, showcasing clear, successful outcomes from direct advocacy efforts.
• A JD (preferred) or another relevant graduate degree is required.
• Exceptional writing abilities. At times, you will function as a solo legal representative, needing to draft regulatory filings as necessary.
• Strong verbal communication and relationship-building skills, with the capability to collaborate with industry and stakeholder partners to enhance or defend the overall market for distributed energy resources.
• Outstanding project management skills. Must be highly efficient while demonstrating sound judgment in managing limited resources.
• Ability to effectively synthesize knowledge across various disciplines (engineering, energy markets, finance) and distill it into clear, understandable verbal and written communications.
• Comfort with measurable performance metrics and a results-driven accountability approach.
