This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Oversee a DevOps team within the Data Science Production Engineering sector.
• Design, test, implement, maintain, and enhance data, cloud, automation, and analytics platforms and systems.
• Lead the DevOps team to ensure timely delivery of software products and systems with strong functionality.
• Mentor and train team members on technologies, procedures, guidelines, and best practices.
• Ensure operational visibility into team workload and productivity.
• Convert business needs and project requirements into technical specifications and implementation strategies.
• Collaborate with DSPE leadership to create system architecture and infrastructure design documents.
• Optimize and manage infrastructure performance, including network I/O, disk I/O, memory allocation, and compute utilization.
• Participate in development, testing, deployment, validation, maintenance, and update processes.
• Enhance and enforce procedures for work efficiency, quality, and compliance.
• Lead the development and upkeep of technical documentation, including design specifications, V&V protocols and reports, deployment records, maintenance logs, and user guides.
• Develop training materials and assist in training efforts.
• Collaborate with engineering and operational stakeholders to coordinate infrastructure roadmaps, address dependencies, and communicate platform performance metrics.
• Represent the DSPE DevOps team in meetings with stakeholders.
• Construct reliable, efficient, high-performance data, cloud, and automation systems that support laboratory operations and genetic counselor/lab director teams.
• A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Bioinformatics, or related field is required; advanced degrees are preferred.
• 10 years of relevant industry experience with a Bachelor's degree, 8 years with a Master's degree, or 4 years with a Doctorate degree.
• 3 years of experience in a highly regulated environment, such as CLIA and/or FDA-compliant settings.
• 3 years of managerial experience leading a DevOps or software development team.
• Experience in designing, delivering, and maintaining/updating custom-developed software tools or systems for production environments, ideally in high-throughput settings.
• Familiarity with creating software design specifications, verification and validation documents, and user manuals.
• Strong Python programming skills with significant experience in cloud application and/or automation system development.
• Proficient with RDBMS systems such as PostgreSQL and/or MySQL and experience in production database-based application development.
• Knowledge of optimizing system architecture and components for performance, scalability, and/or reliability.
• Proficiency in evaluating tool/system performance and understanding the impacts of RAM, disk I/O, and network I/O.
• Proficient with AWS and experienced in developing production software tools/systems using AWS services.
• Familiarity with SDLC and software development/testing methodologies.
• Proficient in Linux command-line skills and experienced in Linux application development.
• Knowledge of genomics and bioinformatics technologies.
• Experience with genomics data formats including FASTQ, BAM, and VCF files.
• Proficient in Git workflow and version control systems such as GitHub and/or GitLab.
• Experience in developing automation solutions.
• Strong documentation practices and coding standards.
• Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• High integrity and teamwork orientation.
• Skills in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) with CloudFormation, Terraform, and/or Ansible are preferred but not mandatory.
