This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Oversee a team of data engineers while maintaining a hands-on approach.
• Define the architectural vision for the Databricks lakehouse utilizing Spark, Delta Lake, and Unity Catalog.
• Facilitate technical discussions and make design decisions.
• Mentor engineers through regular one-on-one meetings and career development initiatives.
• Take ownership of the technical roadmap and the advancement of the data platform.
• Collaborate with architects, product managers, and business stakeholders.
• Balance the introduction of new capabilities with the management of technical debt.
• Implement automated testing, data quality service level agreements (SLAs), CI/CD, monitoring, and observability.
• Foster a robust incident management culture that emphasizes blameless root cause analysis and proactive follow-up.
• Lead the responsible integration of AI-assisted development, testing, and operations.
• Scale effective AI practices to significantly improve delivery timelines.
• Established, in-depth technical expertise in data engineering.
• Strong architectural skills, including the design and defense of large-scale lakehouse and distributed data system architectures.
• Experience in a leadership role focused on people management.
• Practical experience with Databricks, Spark, Delta Lake, Unity Catalog, Python, SQL, and AWS or Azure.
• Extensive experience in embedding automated pipeline testing, validation frameworks, CI/CD, and monitoring in a high-demand SaaS production setting.
• Proven operational excellence and a solid track record in incident management.
• Experience with on-call responsibilities, SLAs, root cause analysis, and measurable improvements in reliability.
• Demonstrated use of AI tools to enhance engineering practices.
• History of fostering career growth and enhancing the capabilities of an engineering team.
• Knowledge of French is required for permanent positions in Quebec.
• Proficiency in English is mandatory.
