Senior Manager, Data Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Lead and expand a team of data engineers responsible for developing and managing ingestion, transformation, orchestration, serving, and self-service analytics layers.

• Implement data quality measures that encompass lineage, freshness monitoring, anomaly detection, and quality metrics.

• Direct the self-service analytics platform to minimize custom requests and enhance partner-team autonomy.

• Take ownership of data-platform compute and storage efficiency while enhancing reliability.

• Collaborate with Data Science, BIE, Analytics, Product, Data Platform, and the CTO organization on semantic layers, modeling standards, and data contracts.

• Establish engineering best practices including code review, testing, CI/CD for data, incident response, and postmortems.

• Advocate for the strategic use of AI coding tools to boost engineering productivity.

• Mentor and cultivate data engineers while promoting ownership, technical excellence, psychological safety, and continuous learning.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in data engineering or backend/data infrastructure, preferably in high-scale environments.

• More than 3 years of direct experience managing and developing engineering teams, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and team design.

• Demonstrated experience in building and operating large-scale batch and streaming pipelines.

• Proficient in Spark, dbt, and Airflow/orchestration.

• Familiarity with modern lakehouse or warehouse platforms such as Databricks, Snowflake, or BigQuery.

• Responsible for data SLAs, observability, lineage, and incident response for critical business pipelines.

• Strong foundation in data modeling.

• Ability to design semantic layers and data contracts for downstream users.

• Exceptional communication and stakeholder alignment skills across engineering, data science, analytics, and business partners.
