Senior Manager, Communications – Media Relations

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Act as the primary rapid response leader for PRP, actively monitoring the news cycle and delivering quick, precise communications in response to urgent legal, legislative, and policy changes.

• Collaborate closely with PRP's legal and program teams to gain insights into ongoing litigation, court documents, and judicial decisions.

• Create and sustain rapid response systems, including messaging frameworks, holding statements, escalation protocols, and spokesperson activation mechanisms.

• Foster and sustain valuable relationships with journalists covering civil rights, immigration, democracy, criminal justice, and local government sectors.

• Oversee media strategy and press relations, coordinating embargoed announcements, press conferences, and media briefings.

• Directly manage the Media Relations Coordinator, offering daily guidance and support for professional growth.


⛳️ Requirements

• Seven (7) to ten (10) years of pertinent professional experience in communications, media relations, rapid response, or public affairs.

• Bachelor's degree or a comparable mix of education, training, and experience.

• Minimum of three (3) years of experience supervising or managing staff within a communications, media relations, or public affairs capacity.

• Proven history of executing high-volume, high-quality communications.

• Established track record of leading rapid response communications in dynamic, high-pressure environments.

• Editorial experience with a strong ability to draft, edit, and finalize press releases, op-eds, statements, and other public-facing materials to a publication-ready standard.

• Significant achievements in securing earned media placements in both national and regional outlets.

• Experience in preparing organizational spokespersons—including elected officials or government representatives—for media appearances and high-profile press events.

• Proficiency in Meltwater or similar media monitoring and analytics tools.

• Understanding of the legal and civil rights landscape, with the ability to communicate complex litigation and policy matters to diverse audiences.
