This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.
• Conducts thorough loss control assessments for potential and existing commercial accounts across various lines of business, including Property, Liability, Auto, and Workers’ Compensation.
• Identifies risks, assesses operational exposures, and suggests practical, data-driven solutions to minimize loss potential.
• Prepares comprehensive, detailed reports that outline risk quality, recommend enhancements, and assess suitability for underwriting criteria.
• Provides expert advice on risk improvement strategies customized to the insured’s operations, industry standards, and safety culture.
• Assists Underwriting in evaluating the quality and eligibility of new business submissions through on-site inspections, virtual assessments, and exposure analysis.
• Engages in new business discussions and visits with agents/insureds to communicate risk strengths, concerns, and recommendations.
• Aids in retention strategies by assisting insureds in implementing risk-improvement initiatives that enhance account performance and claims results.
• Collaborates with the team to create service plans that align with underwriting strategies and customer requirements.
• Analyzes loss patterns, claims activity, and operational practices to pinpoint root causes and prevention measures.
• Recommends safety programs, policy enhancements, and operational best practices aimed at decreasing the frequency and severity of losses.
• Offers training, resources, and coaching to insureds regarding workplace safety, fleet management, property protection, and regulatory compliance.
• Works closely with Underwriting, Claims, Audit, and Agency partners to ensure effective communication and alignment on risk quality and service strategy.
• Participates in team meetings, planning sessions, and ongoing improvement initiatives to enhance underwriting profitability and service delivery.
• Shares insights and trends to assist the team in identifying growth opportunities, strengthening risk selection, and enhancing portfolio performance.
• Contributes to underwriting profitability by ensuring accurate risk classification, robust risk selection, and impactful recommendations.
• Supports the achievement of departmental objectives related to new business production, retention, and improvements in loss ratios.
• Monitors the implementation of risk control recommendations and raises concerns regarding significant hazards.
• Bachelor's degree in Safety Management, Occupational Safety, Risk Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field (preferred).
• Typically requires over 5 years of experience in commercial lines loss control, risk engineering, or safety consulting.
• Previous Loss Control experience with a Commercial Insurance company or Agency.
• Familiarity with multi-line commercial exposures, including property, liability, auto, and workers' compensation.
• Must possess Loss Control/Safety experience in the Insurance Industry (Workers Comp, Commercial Auto, Property, or General Liability).
• Working knowledge of regulatory compliance agencies such as OSHA, DOT, NFPA, NEC, and other safety-related organizations.
• Capable of writing, diagnosing, collecting, extrapolating, and reviewing data to assist policyholders in minimizing losses.
• Ability to learn rapidly and adapt to changing or new priorities.
• Must be self-motivated and work effectively independently while also being comfortable contributing in a team setting.
• Experience in public speaking and a background in safety knowledge.
• Easily adjusts to changes in responsibilities, work processes, timelines, performance expectations, organizational culture, or work environment.
• Experience in counseling, guiding, leading, coordinating, and actively listening to clients.
• Proficient in computing, compiling, tabulating, charting, reviewing, and supporting data and conclusions derived from that data.
• Ability to plan and conduct safety meetings.
• Capable of demonstrating interpersonal skills along with strong written, presentation, and oral communication skills.
