Senior Loan Review Consultant

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• The Loan Review Senior Consultant will assist the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Office of Credit Risk Management (OCRM) by conducting comprehensive reviews of 7(a) and 504 loan files as part of the SBA’s lender oversight and risk management initiatives.

• This position entails examining loan files across various stages including origination, servicing, liquidation, and targeted partial reviews to evaluate compliance with SBA Loan Program Requirements as outlined in 13 CFR Part 120 and relevant SBA Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

• The consultant will scrutinize loan documentation, pinpoint compliance issues or deficiencies, and record findings in organized work papers and loan file review reports.

• The Loan Review Senior Consultant will compile and assess loan files, extract and analyze data from SBA data systems and lender-supplied documentation, and identify both correctable and non-correctable exceptions.

• This role includes direct interaction with SBA Lenders, under the guidance of the SBA, to clarify documentation, address preliminary deficiencies when feasible, and ensure lenders comprehend identified risks and requirements.

• Reviewers will generate clear, well-supported written summaries and draft as well as finalize loan file review reports that detail the condition, criteria, cause, effect, and corrective actions for identified issues.

• The Loan Review Senior Consultant will utilize a secure, web-based virtual data warehouse and workflow tracking system to oversee file reviews, maintain work papers, and aid in status reporting.

• This position demands strict adherence to quality, timeliness, documentation, and data security standards, including the safeguarding of Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and confidential business data.

• Reviewers may participate in onsite or remote reviews, engage in quality assurance efforts, and contribute to weekly, monthly, or ad hoc reporting provided to the SBA.

⛳️ Requirements

• U.S. Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a federal Public Trust.

• A Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three (3) years of recent experience with SBA 7(a) and/or 504 loans (e.g., as a third-party reviewer, examiner, auditor, underwriter, loan closer, or liquidation specialist); OR seven (7) years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.

• Proven experience in reviewing loan files for compliance, risk, and adherence to regulatory and program standards.

• Familiarity with SBA Loan Program Requirements, including 13 CFR Parts 103 and 120 and SBA SOPs related to origination, servicing, liquidation, and lender oversight.

• Strong analytical abilities with the capacity to identify, document, and articulate loan file deficiencies and risks clearly.

• Experience in preparing detailed work papers, loan file review reports, and written summaries that substantiate defensible conclusions.

• Effective communication skills to engage with SBA personnel and SBA Lenders, including clarifying compliance issues and requirements.

• A keen attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple file reviews concurrently while adhering to delivery timelines.

• Proficiency in document management systems, workflow tracking tools, and standard Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
