This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
β’ Collaborate with Product, Compliance, and business teams to design and launch new products by translating intricate legal and regulatory requirements into actionable solutions.
β’ Provide guidance on a wide array of legal and regulatory issues concerning securities, AML/ATF, payments, consumer protection, and other areas that affect Shakepay's operations.
β’ Spearhead regulatory initiatives, which include supporting examinations, audits, licensing efforts, policy formulation, and interaction with regulatory bodies.
β’ Deliver practical, business-centric advice to company leaders, assisting teams in navigating uncertainty and making informed decisions while balancing legal, regulatory, and operational factors.
β’ Recognize opportunities to utilize AI, automation, and scalable processes to enhance legal workflows and facilitate faster business operations.
β’ Assist the team with various other legal matters as required, such as commercial agreements, corporate governance, employment issues, and strategic projects.
β’ Canadian-qualified attorney with over 5 years of experience, preferably in fintech, payments, financial services, cryptocurrency, or a rapidly evolving technology company.
β’ Capable of working independently within a lean team, making decisions with limited information, and advancing tasks without extensive oversight.
β’ Possess business-oriented legal judgment: begin with the product or business outcome, then guide the team in understanding risks, options, and the recommended course of action.
β’ Comfortable providing direct advice to product and operational teams, including on ambiguous issues where definitive answers may not exist.
β’ Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the capacity to translate complex legal matters into clear, practical guidance for non-legal audiences.
