This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Report on police, court, and crime stories both inside and outside the courtroom - covering causes, solutions, and news as it unfolds.
• Generating and nurturing ideas for innovative stories and projects.
• Building relationships with sources and developing expertise to uncover stories and shape the news narrative.
• Managing additional assignments and stories as needed.
• Prior experience in court and legal reporting is preferred.
• A digital-first journalist, adept at producing clean copy swiftly.
• An exceptional writer, versatile in crafting breaking news, engaging features, and short-form content, as well as non-traditional formats like explainers, Q/As, and longform journalism.
• Possess the motivation and inquisitiveness to investigate thoroughly and obtain answers.
• Ability to recognize trends and underlying factors in the news, enabling you to clarify why and how events are occurring, in addition to what is happening.
