Senior Government Underwriter

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Hawaii.

📋 Description

• Underwrites Conventional, FHA, VA, and Special Program loans to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance.

• Develops and maintains a comprehensive and current understanding of various loan product guidelines offered by the company, along with DU/LP guidelines and risk assessment tools utilized for mortgage loan decisions.

• Modifies loans to new terms and identifies additional conditions as necessary to ensure a sound credit decision.

• Reviews and assesses borrower(s) profiles, including but not limited to all income documentation, tax returns, credit reports, preliminary reports, judgments, bankruptcy documents, and appraisals.

• Analyzes and calculates income documentation such as personal and business income statements, ensuring that all required documentation is requested to support final loan decisions.

• Demonstrates sound judgment, conducts reasonableness tests, and issues quality decisions.

• Assesses the accuracy and completeness of files, ensuring that processes are consistent.

• Maintains regular communication with the sales team, processors, and management.

⛳️ Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED is required.

• BA or BS degree is preferred.

• Minimum of 5 years of current frontline mortgage underwriting experience is required.

• Skills in appraisal review and tax return analysis are necessary.

• Prior credit signing authority is a plus.

• Experience with repurchase response and/or rebuttal review and preparation is beneficial.

• Secondary market experience is advantageous.

• Knowledge of TILA, RESPA, and Predatory Lending is essential.

• Strong analytical, decision-making, and problem-solving skills are required.

• Proficient in computer systems including LOS systems, Microsoft Office, and Excel.

• Ability to adapt, learn, and utilize multiple software programs.

• Experience in a paperless environment is preferred.
