Senior Full-Stack Engineer – Backend, Data Focus

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Costa Rica.

📋 Description

• Design and implement scalable RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs using Node.js and Express.

• Develop, manage, and maintain data pipelines for ingestion, transformation, storage, and reliability.

• Organize and structure data to support product features, internal tools, analytics, and experimentation.

• Oversee schema design, query optimization, indexing, and scaling across both relational and NoSQL databases.

• Manage deployments and infrastructure on AWS, including CI/CD pipelines and monitoring tools.

• Participate in system design decisions as we scale—focusing on services, data flow, and reliability.

• Assist with or review front-end work in React when necessary; while you won't be leading these efforts, you have a solid understanding of them.

• Collaborate closely with founders and teams in product, growth, and operations to transform data into actionable outcomes.

• Conduct code reviews, uphold coding standards, and mentor mid-level and junior developers.

• Enhance logging, monitoring, and data reliability across various systems.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of professional experience in backend engineering, demonstrating ownership of production systems.

• Extensive experience with Node.js (primary) or Python for backend services and API development.

• Strong proficiency in SQL and relational databases, with Postgres being strongly preferred.

• Practical experience in building or managing data pipelines and ETL workflows in a production environment.

• Comprehensive understanding of system design, performance optimization, and scalability.

• Proficient in AWS services such as EC2, RDS, S3, Lambda, etc.

• Familiarity with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB) in conjunction with relational systems.

• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code methodologies.

• Hands-on experience using Claude Code or similar AI coding tools (Cursor, Copilot, etc.). You have genuinely integrated AI into your engineering workflow and believe in the future of AI-assisted development, which is evident in your work.

• Comfortable with React at a functional level, capable of reading, reviewing, and contributing to front-end code.

• Excellent communication skills and a strong ownership mindset.
