Senior Full Stack Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Develop and sustain solutions across the entire stack: Contribute to backend services, APIs, data pipelines, and, when necessary, frontend interfaces, aligning with Spotify's infrastructure patterns to further establish WhoSampled as the industry leader in narrating the story behind music.

• Enhance metadata matching: Advance the method by which WhoSampled's database aligns with Spotify's catalog, transitioning from heuristic methods to machine learning-assisted techniques, including entity resolution and LLM-powered disambiguation. Improved matching will enable a greater portion of WhoSampled's archive to be meaningfully showcased within Spotify.

• Propel infrastructure modernization: Spearhead significant infrastructure initiatives that transition WhoSampled to more resilient, scalable foundations, collaborating closely with Spotify's platform and security teams.

• Assume end-to-end ownership: Design, build, deploy, and manage. You are responsible for the reliability and performance of the systems you oversee and are proactive in enhancing them.

• Embrace AI integration: Incorporate AI tools into your engineering workflow; whether to improve data quality, enhance matching, automate operations, or boost developer productivity.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience in developing production software, with a focus on at least two areas: backend services, frontend web, data systems, or infrastructure — along with sufficient exposure to other areas to navigate between them seamlessly.

• You are adept at transitioning between languages and stacks. You possess strong skills in Python (preferably with Django experience) and Java.

• You have hands-on experience with Postgres — including schema design, query optimization, and understanding when to consider alternative solutions. Familiarity with ElasticSearch is advantageous; you will be optimizing clusters with us, not starting from scratch.

• You have contemporary web application experience with TypeScript and React. You have delivered user-facing features, not just prototypes.

• You are well-versed with the production stack: Linux, GCP (or similar cloud services), networking essentials, and possess a solid understanding of what is required to maintain system reliability under load.

• You excel in ambiguous situations and take ownership. You progress without complete specifications, make informed decisions with limited supervision, and recognize when to seek assistance.

• You prioritize craftsmanship. You produce clean, testable code; create documentation that is genuinely useful for others; and develop systems you would confidently hand off.
