Senior Forward Deployed AI Engineer, GenAI, AWS

Posted Jul 27

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Jersey, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Provectus stands as a Premier AWS partner and an Anthropic Strategic Partner, leading the way in applied AI by assisting enterprises in transforming Claude, agentic systems, and their own data into quantifiable business results through customized applications, managed services, and consulting engagements.

• Our focus is on two primary sectors — Financial Services & Insurance and Healthcare & Life Sciences — where we implement five pre-designed AI Blueprints: Submission Flow, Portfolio Lens, Asset Flow, Revenue Flow, and Evidence Lens. Each Blueprint reconstructs a vital business process comprehensively, delivered from operational code and tailored to a client's unique portfolio, regulatory requirements, and operational context.

• We integrate engineers and leaders into client operations as Forward Deployed Engineers (FDE) and Forward Deployed Executives (FDX) — individuals who immerse themselves in the work, implement the system, and take responsibility for the outcomes. Our team boasts over 100 AWS certifications, is Claude Code certified, and co-delivers Anthropic's Agentic SDLC program, Cowork Activation, and AI Blueprints.

• You will perform the customer’s role before automating it.

• Many AI projects falter due to a common issue: requirements are gathered, a PRD is drafted, and a team develops a workflow that ultimately goes unused. We believe the requirements-gathering phase is flawed. Thus, we eliminate it.

• A Forward Deployed AI Engineer at Provectus dedicates the initial weeks of an engagement to working alongside the operator — as the underwriter, analyst, RCM specialist, claims clinician, or any role that directly involves the work we aim to improve. You undertake the job, gaining insights into the constraints that are often undocumented. Subsequently, you collaborate with that operator and a Forward Deployed Executive to reconstruct the function from foundational principles — and you are the architect of that reconstruction.

• Three principles shape your work approach:

• - Embedded, not engaged. You become a part of the customer’s team and workflows — not merely a vendor managing a project beside it.

• - Real tasks, not scope. You are not confined to a limited deliverable. You address the actual operational challenges.

• - Autonomous. Being embedded does not equate to staff augmentation. You are responsible for the methodology; no one hands you a ticket.

• You won’t be starting from scratch. Provectus creates industry blueprints — functional systems that have already been implemented for a client in your sector. Your engagement begins with that foundational work, and your field insights feed back into it. This cycle differentiates an outcome from merely an invoice.

• Your performance will be evaluated based on whether the Business Unit's metrics improve — rather than hours worked or scope completed.

• This position is intended for engineers who have prior leadership experience — as a founder, CTO, or senior engineer — and who wish to remain hands-on with code while taking ownership of the results. On most occasions, you will be the most experienced technical individual in the room, while still being responsible for delivering results.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 8 years of software development experience, with a significant portion spent writing production code for which you were responsible. You are actively engaged in coding today and plan to continue doing so.

• You are ready to assume the operator's role. You genuinely intend to spend weeks performing someone else's job — whether in claims processing, underwriting, or revenue-cycle tasks — before you write any code. Engineers who prefer to stay within an IDE should not apply.

• You quickly grasp new domains. A proven ability to become knowledgeable in an unfamiliar business function swiftly enough to engage in discussions with professionals in that field.

• Experience delivering GenAI/LLM systems to production — not just demos or notebooks. You have navigated the challenges that arise after the prototype is operational.

• You evaluate systems. You have either built or managed an evaluation suite for a non-deterministic system and can articulate what you measured and the rationale behind it.

• Strong engineering fundamentals — you can quickly become productive in an unfamiliar codebase or programming language. Proficiency in Python and/or TypeScript is required; depth of knowledge is more important than the specific technology stack.

• Experience with cloud-native delivery on AWS (GCP/Azure experience is a bonus): encompassing containers, Kubernetes/ECS, IaC, CI/CD, and the operational realities of a system that someone else must manage.

• Credibility with senior stakeholders — you are capable of conducting redesign discussions with a Business Unit leader and scoping talks with a CTO without losing credibility in either setting.

• Comfort with ambiguity and a sense of ownership. Engagements are intentionally started with vague specifications. Addressing that uncertainty is part of the role.

• Solid foundations in AI/ML — you comprehend the capabilities of models sufficiently to understand potential failure modes, rather than merely invoking the API.

• Significant hands-on experience with Claude Code/Cowork.

• Proficiency in English, both written and spoken.

• Nice to have:

• Previous experience as a founder, CTO, or engineering leader who has chosen to return to a hands-on role.

• In-depth knowledge in one of our blueprint sectors: financial services, insurance, healthcare, or asset management.

• Experience in consulting, professional services, or other client-facing delivery roles.

• Expertise in data platforms: data lakes, warehouses, streaming and real-time analytics, data mesh and data contracts, governance and data quality.

• Familiarity with MLOps and classical ML: including PyTorch, SageMaker, and MLflow.

• Experience with fine-tuning, distillation, or optimization for inference/serving.

• Knowledge of graph databases (e.g., Neo4j, AWS Neptune).

• Proficiency in IaC tools: AWS CDK, CloudFormation, Terraform.

• Contributions to open-source projects or public writing focused on applied AI.

🏝️ Benefits

• Engage in pioneering delivery work across Cowork Activation, Agentic SDLC, and Blueprint Activations within Financial Services and Healthcare.

• An opportunity to influence how leading enterprises implement AI, from strategic planning to initial deployment.

• A forward-deployed model allowing you to work in compact, senior teams alongside Principal Architects and Forward Deployed Engineers.

• A developing AI delivery practice where you contribute to building the necessary tools and frameworks, not just utilizing them.

• A culture that supports remote work.
