This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Evaluate AI-generated submission analyses, pricing outputs, and exposure summaries, treating each output as an initial draft while identifying any oversights from the model prior to making a decision.
• Make swift and accurate underwriting decisions on commercial trucking accounts, discerning when to approve, adjust, decline, or escalate cases.
• Identify inconsistencies in submission data that may be overlooked by AI, including contradictions in operation class, mileage, commodity, FMCSA safety scores, DOT history, and loss run trends.
• Interpret and clarify all pricing elements—tier, experience mod, territory factor, schedule mod—and develop a rate rationale that you can effectively explain to a broker without needing to reconstruct the calculations.
• Monitor carrier appetite, competitive landscape, and identify where Nirvana succeeds and where it falls short; when a broker inquires, “where does this land?” you respond based on experience rather than guesswork.
• Proactively establish and strengthen broker relationships, becoming the go-to underwriter for brokers with their top accounts due to your reputation for prompt responses, fair pricing, and respect for their time.
• Guide deal negotiations with a defined floor, a narrative, and a strategic position; comprehend the broker's circumstances and competitive environment—knowing when to compromise and when to stand firm.
• Confidently present coverage, pricing, and Nirvana’s value proposition to leadership teams of insured clients, including CFOs and fleet managers, with clarity and assurance on significant accounts.
• Record model blind spots with specific context tied to accounts and provide structured feedback to the Product team to enhance AI accuracy over time, as this is an integral part of the role.
• Mentor junior underwriters in risk identification, pricing expertise, broker engagement, and effective collaboration with AI tools.
• A minimum of 5 years of commercial trucking underwriting experience with a proven history of writing profitable business.
• Extensive technical understanding of trucking operations, various business classes, FMCSA/DOT data, commodity risk, and loss run analysis—you are adept at identifying what the model overlooks.
• Proficiency in pricing across all components: tier, experience mod, territory factor, schedule mod; you can discern when a figure is correct, defensible, or incorrect.
• Proven ability to cultivate trusted relationships with brokers and secure competitive accounts—brokers provide you with their best business because you have earned their trust.
• Comfortable with deal negotiations, entering with a floor, a narrative, and a position; you recognize the distinction between being agreeable and achieving closure.
• Possess executive presence: capable of presenting coverage and pricing to a CFO or fleet director, addressing challenging questions, and instilling confidence in insured clients before they sign.
• Collaborative attitude and a genuine enthusiasm for working alongside AI tools, actively contributing to their improvement through structured feedback.
• Competitive salary & equity
• Medical, dental & vision insurance
• 401k with company match
• Unlimited PTO
• Work from home friendly
