Senior Financial Analyst

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the annual budget and ongoing forecasts for the R&D organization, which encompasses engineering headcount, contractor expenditures, software and tools, and allocated infrastructure costs.

• Act as the primary finance partner for R&D, addressing budget inquiries, constructing one-off scenario models, and delivering financial insights for leadership decision-making.

• Develop business case models for R&D investments, new product development, platform initiatives, and significant capability enhancements, including projected costs, revenue assumptions, and payback timelines.

• Analyze investment trade-offs for R&D leadership and monitor the actual performance of approved investments against their initial business cases.

• Assist in setting growth and profitability targets by modeling how R&D investment levels correlate with product capability timelines and potential downstream revenue.

• Manage cloud hosting cost reporting and forecasting, tracking actuals by product line against budget and maintaining a forward-looking model that reflects planned usage growth.

• Identify optimization opportunities across the cloud portfolio, including idle resources, over-provisioned environments, and the mix between commitment and on-demand resources, collaborating with engineering on the cost implications of architectural choices.

• Construct and sustain a product-level P&L for key product lines, covering ARR, recognized revenue, gross margin, and associated R&D and GTM investments.

• Contribute product line P&L, ARR, and pipeline performance data for executive and board-level reporting.

⛳️ Requirements

• 5–8 years of experience in FP&A, corporate finance, or a closely related analytical role within a SaaS or technology firm; experience supporting R&D and GTM finance is highly advantageous.

• Proven experience in essential FP&A functions such as budgeting, forecasting, headcount modeling, and variance analysis, ideally with R&D cost structures.

• Knowledge of cloud infrastructure economics and the capability to construct cost models for cloud hosting portfolios.

• In-depth understanding of SaaS revenue metrics including ARR, NRR, pipeline velocity, close rates, gross margin, CAC, and LTV, with the ability to build robust, defensible models and narratives around these metrics.

• Experience in creating and managing product-level P&L models that include revenue, COGS, gross margin, and investment allocation.

• Practically AI-enabled; you actively utilize AI tools in your daily workflow for financial modeling, research, data analysis, or drafting, while exercising the judgment to validate outputs and discern when to trust them.

• Demonstrated ability to operate in environments with incomplete data, evolving definitions, or maturing infrastructure, and the judgment to deliver credible, actionable analysis regardless.

• A clear and confident communicator capable of translating complex financial analyses into narratives for non-financial audiences, bringing a point of view that goes beyond just delivering outputs.
