Senior Field Protection – Controls Technologist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Oversee the installation, commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, and maintenance of protection and control systems.

• Conduct advanced field testing on transmission systems, buses, transformers, breakers, generation assets, feeders, reactors, and capacitor banks.

• Configure, test, and commission SEL and GE Multilin relay systems.

• Assist with upgrades to SCADA, RTU, telecommunications, and substation automation.

• Analyze and verify protection schemes, relay settings, wiring diagrams, one-line diagrams, schematics, logic diagrams, and configuration files.

• Resolve complex field issues and implement effective solutions.

• Provide field leadership, mentorship, and technical support to junior and intermediate team members.

• Serve as a technical resource for clients during field assignments.

• Prepare test reports, commissioning documentation, deficiency notes, and project closure records.

• Adhere to safety procedures, regulatory standards, and industry best practices.

• Lead intricate commissioning, testing, and modernization projects throughout British Columbia.


⛳️ Requirements

• 7 to 15 years of progressive field experience in protection and controls, substation commissioning, relay testing, power system testing, or related electrical field services.

• Diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, Protection and Controls, or a related discipline.

• Registration or eligibility for registration with ASTTBC or EGBC is considered advantageous.

• NETA Certification, or progress towards certification, is preferred.

• Strong hands-on experience with SEL relays is highly preferred.

• Familiarity with GE Multilin relays, including C30, D60, L90, T60, or similar platforms, is a significant asset.

• Experience with RTU, SCADA, telecom, and communication platforms such as GE, SEL, Novatech, Telvent, Cooper, or similar systems.

• Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical drawings, protection schemes, relay settings, wiring diagrams, and commissioning documentation.

• Capable of leading field work, supporting project execution, mentoring others, and communicating effectively with clients and internal teams.

• Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills.

• Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel regularly to client sites across British Columbia.

• Legally authorized to work in Canada.
