Senior Environmental Specialist – Rotational

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alaska.

📋 Description

• Deliver environmental monitoring and compliance services to support road construction at the Red Dog site.

• Facilitate the transition to environmental compliance and implementation for water discharge and treatment initiatives at the Red Dog Mine.

• Oversee environmental monitoring to ensure compliance with regulatory obligations and commitments.

• Collaborate closely with Teck’s Construction Manager to guarantee that the construction crew fulfills their duties in alignment with the Construction Environmental Monitoring Plan (CEMP).

• Observe environmental conditions in the construction area and record the effectiveness of environmental control measures.

• Perform environmental inspections and field compliance activities, documenting adherence to the Project’s plans, policies, procedures, and permit requirements.

• Ensure quality assurance during construction through audits, inspections, monitoring, and documentation of the implemented measures' performance.

• Act as a liaison between the Red Dog Construction Manager and construction teams to enhance communication and promptly address conflicts, issues, and challenges related to environmental matters.

• Review environmental field activities executed by the construction team and report any issues encountered.

• Suggest and advocate for proactive solutions and best management practices to fulfill environmental requirements for the Project.

• Oversee the installation of environmental protection measures on an as-needed basis throughout the Project's duration.

⛳️ Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.

• Preferred three to five years of experience in construction environmental monitoring and management, particularly in the natural resource sector, with an emphasis on mining or road construction.

• Hands-on experience in erosion prevention and sediment control for construction projects, along with turbidity monitoring and sampling.

• Desirable experience with arctic construction, including ice roads.

• Familiarity with applicable regulatory, legal, and other requirements pertinent to the assigned responsibilities.

• Working knowledge of arctic wildlife and vegetation management.

• Experience with US and State of Alaska environmental statutes, regulations, and permits.

• Strong technical skills coupled with practical problem-solving abilities.

• Capability to function effectively in a team environment and efficiently communicate across all business levels, with the competence to guide the activities of others.

• Preferred knowledge of environmental best management practices and systems, compliance, or auditing.

• Bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences, natural resource management, or a related field.
