This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Develop high-quality environmental assets and scenes (architecture, organic environments, kits, hero props, set dressing) optimized for real-time performance.
• Elevate material quality: trim sheets, tileables, layered materials, vertex blends, and reusable material functions as needed.
• Oversee scene/asset optimization: LOD strategy, streaming considerations, draw calls, memory management, lightmap constraints, and platform targets.
• Lead execution for a small team or pod: break down tasks, establish short-term priorities, and ensure timely deliverables.
• Offer reviews and mentorship: provide actionable feedback, paintovers/blockouts as necessary, and maintain consistent standards for the “definition of done.”
• Collaborate across disciplines (Design, Lighting, Tech Art, Engineering) to ensure environments enhance gameplay readability and performance.
• Assist with client-facing communication as needed: clarify requirements, share work in progress, align on standards, and minimize rework through early alignment.
• Contribute to process and pipeline improvements: naming conventions, template scenes, kit documentation, and onboarding materials.
• Minimum **8 years of professional experience in the game industry** with at least one shipped title.
• Familiarity with industry-standard tools such as **Maya, 3DS Max, Blender, Substance Painter, Substance Designer, ZBrush, etc.**
• Proven experience in delivering real-time environment work in **Unreal Engine 4 or 5.**
• Strong foundation in environment art fundamentals: composition, mood, scale, material definition, and cohesion.
• Excellent modeling skills (architectural/modular, hard-surface, and organic); solid understanding of UV and baking fundamentals.
• Strong skills in texturing/materials (Photoshop + Substance Painter; Designer/trim workflows highly preferred).
• Demonstrated knowledge of optimization techniques (LODs, texel density, streaming, draw calls, memory budgets).
• Leadership-level communication: clear written and verbal updates, actionable feedback, and strong collaboration skills.
• Experience mentoring or guiding fellow artists (formal lead title not necessary, but leadership behaviors are essential).
