Senior Engineering Manager, Messaging Channels

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Lead the team responsible for Postscript’s messaging infrastructure: Flow Builder, the campaign sending engine, and the messaging platform that underpins every Postscript product, along with advancements into new channels.

• Enhance the reliability, throughput, and cost-effectiveness of a production system that accommodates messaging volumes at Postscript scale.

• Oversee the Messaging Platform as an internal product, establishing contracts, prioritization, and support expectations with engineering consumer teams throughout Postscript.

• Manage the team’s dedicated on-call rotation, which includes incident response, blameless postmortems, and ongoing improvements to reliability practices.

• Collaborate with platform, AI, and integrations engineering colleagues, product managers, business stakeholders, designers, and compliance partners to strategically plan and execute initiatives.

• Conduct performance management responsibilities for your direct reports through timely feedback, one-on-ones, annual reviews, and continuous development opportunities.

• Provide ongoing technical mentorship and general professional development to your direct reports and other engineers at Postscript.

• Establish and continually refine development, on-call, and incident-review processes that maximize efficiency and operational rigor in daily engineering activities.

• Partner with and nurture Staff Engineers and technical experts within the organization to create technical roadmaps and accomplish technical initiatives that boost engineering efficiency, manage the growth of our platform’s scale, and enhance delivery speed.

• Recruit and hire engineers for your team and across other teams, advocate for new positions within your team, and take an active role in candidate screening and evaluation.

• Lead and engage in cultural initiatives aimed at building the finest engineering organization in the world.

⛳️ Requirements

• A proven track record of directly managing engineers and cultivating top performers into principal engineers (preferably 4+ years of leadership experience).

• Experience in mentoring staff engineers and highly technical contributors.

• Proven history of leading teams responsible for high-volume, business-critical distributed systems such as messaging, payments, or similarly demanding delivery pipelines.

• Experience managing an internal platform that other engineering teams rely upon, including handling contracts, prioritization, and on-call responsibilities across consumer teams.

• Demonstrated success in recruiting and onboarding engineers.

• A clear passion for people, management, and facilitating individuals to perform at their best.

• Experience in early-stage/high-growth SaaS environments.

• Led teams that have maintained essential infrastructure for both internal and external developers.

• Introduced and sustained systems with a high level of observability (including alerting, logging, monitoring, and SLOs).

• Led teams that support deeply integrated connections with external ecommerce platforms, carriers, or third-party service providers.

• Comfortable supporting frontend engineering on a product interface such as Flow Builder, even if your primary expertise lies in backend development.

• Familiarity with AI technologies (both predictive and generative) and their interaction with platform services is a plus.

• A demonstrated passion for delivering exceptional products, with a preference for martech SaaS or ecommerce experience.
