This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.
• Provide support to Sales, Engineering, Project Management, and Commissioning by utilizing your expertise in final installation and system integration.
• Assist junior controls engineers as needed.
• Aid in developing functional description specifications for the installation of electrical equipment and controls commissioning.
• Create Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) programs.
• Prepare documentation such as Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and help in the development of manuals.
• Design and develop electrical cabinets.
• Generate schematics and network diagrams.
• Design control algorithms and safety systems.
• Program device communication for pallet conveyance and inspection equipment.
• Test and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems and processes.
• Collaborate closely with Research and Development (R&D).
• Source materials from external vendors.
• Lead engineering and automation teams through concept planning, configuration, and development phases.
• Contribute to the creation of risk assessment documents that identify system hazards.
• Enhance system performance by providing simulation support.
• Assist the Sales Engineering team with product testing.
• Contribute to mechanical system layout drawings, ensuring all electrical and control specifications, including cable routing, are addressed.
• Collaborate with the Commissioning Team to develop test plans.
• Perform Full Load Amps calculations.
• Ensure the selection of UL listed components and that cabinets are assembled in compliance with relevant standards.
• Be present on-site during the First Power Up to ensure operational capability post-rack installation and confirm functionality before robot commissioning.
• Attend on-site during the final stages of commissioning to prepare the Movu system for handover to the end customer.
• Conduct Site Acceptance Testing.
• Over 8 years of experience in controls and electrical engineering related to custom automation.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Automation, Robotics, Electrical, Electro-Mechanical, or Mechatronics Engineering.
• Proficient in PLC and HMI Programming (Beckhoff, Siemens, Allen Bradley, Rockwell).
• Experience with automation controls, monitoring systems, safety area scanners, and safety controllers.
• Capable of installing, configuring, and troubleshooting mechanical and electrical systems.
• Comfortable using 2D CAD software (required) and 3D CAD software (preferred) for designing electrical diagrams and schematics.
• Experience with ePlan or similar software is a plus.
• Willingness and ability to travel to customer sites and, if remote, to our office up to 50% of the time, typically not exceeding two weeks at a time, throughout the United States and occasionally to Canada.
