This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Act as Ratehub's key subject matter authority on mortgages and real estate, representing the brand in media engagements.
• Assist the Communications team by providing expert commentary, relevant data, and timely insights for media pitches and press opportunities.
• Exhibit a strong on-camera and on-mic presence for video content and media interviews; comfort in front of a camera is a significant asset.
• Enhance Ratehub's reputation in the mortgage sector by creating and writing exceptional, accurate, and timely original content across various formats, including media contributions, landing pages, blog posts, newsletters, videos, and social media.
• Develop content that offers unique analysis and insights, reflecting current market conditions, rate fluctuations, and consumer needs — rather than just evergreen education.
• Regularly engage with Ratehub's mortgage brokerage team to stay updated on rate trends, lender strategies, and market shifts, translating those insights into timely content updates.
• Continuously maintain and refresh existing content, including blogs, FAQs, and landing pages, utilizing internal resources and freelancers when necessary.
• Apply SEO and GEO best practices across all content, focusing particularly on landing pages and high-traffic areas.
• Establish, document, and uphold Ratehub's editorial voice and style standards across different formats, channels, and contributors.
• Develop and maintain editorial policies, workflows, and governance frameworks that can scale across staff writers, freelancers, and cross-functional contributors.
• Oversee and manage the editorial and social media calendar, balancing timely rate and market coverage with long-term content strategy, ensuring that all published content adheres to accuracy, compliance, and regulatory standards pertinent to Canadian financial products.
• Review, edit, and approve submissions from writers, freelancers, and subject matter experts to ensure a consistently high editorial standard.
• Cultivate and maintain deep knowledge in Canadian personal finance — including mortgage rates, insurance, credit cards, banking, and investing — to provide credible editorial oversight.
• Implement content QA processes, including fact-checking, link auditing, structural reviews, and scheduled content refreshes.
• Utilize performance data — such as organic traffic, keyword rankings, GEO metrics, engagement, and conversion indicators — to guide editorial priorities and identify content gaps.
• Brief, onboard, and manage freelance contributors, defining the scope of work, overseeing quality, and providing feedback.
• Collaborate with product, design, marketing, and data teams to ensure content accurately reflects live product and rate information.
• Lead sponsored content production, serving as the main point of contact between the external partnership team and the content team.
• 6–10 years of editorial experience.
• Demonstrated expertise in personal finance content, with a strong preference for candidates focused on mortgages or real estate.
• Experience in a digital-first media environment, fintech, financial services, or a high-volume content operation.
• Post-secondary education in journalism, communications, English, or a related field — or equivalent professional experience.
• Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling abilities with the aptitude to clarify and make complex financial topics engaging for a Canadian consumer audience.
• Strong familiarity with Canadian mortgage products, rate structures, lending regulations, and the broader real estate landscape is highly preferred.
• Proven capability to manage a high volume of content across various formats simultaneously — including articles, landing pages, newsletters, social media, and video scripts.
• Strong command of Canadian AP or CP style, with experience in developing and maintaining in-house style guides.
• Solid working knowledge of SEO best practices, such as keyword research, on-page optimization, internal linking, and content structuring for search.
• Familiarity with GEO (generative engine optimization) and the impact of AI-powered search on content strategy.
• Comfortable using tools like Google Search Console, Google Analytics, Semrush, PEEC, or similar platforms to guide editorial decisions.
• Ability to interpret content performance data and convert it into actionable editorial priorities.
• Experience mentoring content writers/strategists, with a record of enhancing the quality of a team's output.
• Skilled in briefing and managing freelance contributors, including offering clear, constructive editorial feedback.
• Comfortable collaborating cross-functionally with marketing, product, and analytics teams.
• Strong project management skills — capable of balancing competing deadlines, shifting priorities, and multiple stakeholders without oversight.
• Confident communicator with experience acting as a brand spokesperson or subject matter expert in media contexts.
• On-camera and on-mic experience is an asset, with comfort in participating in video content, podcast appearances, or broadcast interviews.
• Strong connections within Canadian financial media or journalism circles are advantageous.
• Proficiency in a CMS (WordPress or similar), project management tools (Asana, Notion, or similar), and standard editorial collaboration tools.
• Experience with AI writing and editing tools, along with a thoughtful perspective on responsible usage in an editorial context.
