Senior Director of Development

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Create and execute a comprehensive development strategy aimed at foundations, major donors, and mid-level giving that is in line with the organization's objectives.

• Oversee and mentor development directors along with the development manager.

• Manage major gift initiatives, foster relationships with key donors and funders, and coordinate the strategy for donor events.

• Collaborate closely with the editorial and product departments to ensure alignment between development efforts and organizational programs.

• Construct and monitor an annual revenue budget utilizing Salesforce.

• Identify, research, cultivate, and solicit potential donors and foundations.

• Create a donor communications plan and lead the development of persuasive fundraising materials.

• Organize fundraising and engagement events.

• Oversee development processes and systems, including recordkeeping and grant reporting.

• Guide a high-performing development team toward achieving organizational revenue objectives.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of five years of experience in development roles at a senior management level.

• Demonstrated success in leading effective development initiatives and creatively engaging donors and funders.

• Experience in managing a high-functioning development team consisting of three or more individuals.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage a diverse range of stakeholders and collaborate across teams.

• Familiarity with nonprofit media and journalism fundraising is advantageous.

• Strong focus, exceptional organizational skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to deliver dependable results.

• Adaptable and capable of thriving in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment.

• Must be based in California with occasional travel availability.
