Senior Director, Drug Development Portfolio Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.

📋 Description

• Manages the overarching plans and progress of teams, steering projects from pre-clinical phases to commercialization.

• Responsible for integrating major indication activities and milestones, documenting their downstream effects, and justifying modifications in project budgets and resources.

• Involves close collaboration with the Asset Strategy Lead and functional leaders within the EDST or AST.

• Compiles and maintains the integrated cross-functional project plan, ensuring alignment with corporate strategy.

• Promotes project management techniques and processes, mentoring team members on consistent application, including risk mapping, mitigation strategies, and documenting lessons learned.

• Aids in the professional development of team members, enhancing their confidence, skills, and experiences in line with corporate strategy.

• Establishes a comprehensive project lifetime plan with sufficient detail, proactively identifying risks and addressing issues.

• Oversees and communicates project timelines, budgets, and resource allocations, highlighting delays and discrepancies.

• Encourages high team performance by actively engaging stakeholders and collaborating with project leadership.

• Works with various teams and function leads to convert strategies into cohesive project plans.

• Notifies leadership of any significant project accelerations or setbacks, facilitating necessary corrective actions.

• Develops and implements methodologies and frameworks for quality decision-making to enhance operational excellence in drug development projects.


⛳️ Requirements

• Strong leadership capabilities, fostering values that improve team dynamics.

• Exceptional communication skills, promoting inclusivity and collaboration.

• Proven interpersonal abilities for conflict resolution and management.

• Solid project management skills with extensive exposure to the pharmaceutical R&D process; advanced planning experience with MS Project is crucial.

• PMP certification is advantageous.

• Ability to adapt to continual change.

• Proficient verbal and written English communication skills (full professional proficiency required).

• Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in a health-related field or equivalent experience.

• At least 10 years of experience in drug development across various phases and disease categories.

• Minimum of 5 years of program management experience in a pharmaceutical or biotech context, ideally in cross-cultural settings.

• Genuine interest and some experience in people management.

• Familiarity with Regulatory Affairs and/or Clinical Development is a plus.
