Senior Digital Infrastructure Design Director

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.

📋 Description

• Oversee the execution of intricate digital infrastructure projects from due diligence and site selection to design, construction, and commissioning.

• Lead multidisciplinary teams in engineering and design across civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, telecommunications, environmental, permitting, and security fields.

• Act as the main client-facing leader responsible for the success of projects, engaging stakeholders, and fostering strategic account development.

• Manage the project scope, timeline, budget, quality, and associated risks.

• Advise on technical design choices for mission-critical facilities and communications infrastructure.

• Support projects related to cable landing stations, fiber networks, carrier-neutral facilities, data centers, broadband, telecommunications, utilities, and power infrastructure.

• Facilitate design reviews, workshops, and high-level stakeholder meetings.

• Recognize and address risks associated with project delivery.

• Offer technical direction during permitting, utility coordination, and environmental assessments.

• Assist with construction administration, commissioning, and reviews for operational readiness.

• Build and sustain relationships with significant clients and industry partners.

• Mentor and develop technical staff, aiding in the growth of AECOM’s Digital Infrastructure practice.

• Contribute to strategic initiatives, proposals, and business development efforts.

• Travel both domestically and internationally for client meetings, site evaluations, design workshops, project milestones, and construction activities.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Telecommunications, Architecture, Information Technology, or a related field, along with 8 years of relevant experience, or a demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.

• Over 8 years of experience in managing complex infrastructure, telecommunications, mission-critical, utility, or data center projects.

• Proven experience in leading multidisciplinary project teams and coordinating various stakeholders.

• Successful track record in managing project budgets, schedules, and client relationships.

• A Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent professional credential is preferred.

• Experience in delivering data centers, telecommunications facilities, broadband networks, fiber infrastructure, utility infrastructure, mission-critical facilities, or other large-scale infrastructure programs.

• Experience supporting hyperscale, telecommunications, technology, utility, or infrastructure clients.

• Familiarity with submarine cable systems, cable landing stations, dark fiber networks, carrier-neutral facilities, or long-haul communications infrastructure.

• Experience with international projects and geographically distributed teams.

• Knowledge of permitting, environmental compliance, utility coordination, and regulatory processes.

• Proficiency in using BIM/Revit, Civil 3D, Bluebeam, GIS, or similar design and collaboration tools.

• Strong experience in business development, proposal management, and client engagement.

• Demonstrated ability to mentor staff and lead high-performing teams.

• Must have authorization to work in the United States; sponsorship is not available now or in the future.
