Senior DevOps Engineer – AWS, Python

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Mexico.

📋 Description

• Code Review and Maintenance: The capability to evaluate code within GitHub repositories and perform necessary maintenance tasks.

• Analysis and Planning: Assess and formulate a strategy for each repository to document the code, enhance test coverage, and establish a framework for effective maintenance.

• Test Coverage: Aim to elevate AWS infrastructure test coverage to 90%, up from the current approximate level of 10% across the repositories.

• Leadership in Automation and CI/CD: Spearhead the design and improvement of automation frameworks and CI/CD pipelines, establishing benchmarks for excellence, including the use of containerization technologies such as AWS.

• Advanced Cloud Strategy: Design and oversee intricate cloud environments, prioritizing performance, security, and scalability. Utilize cloud platforms such as AWS along with configuration management tools like Terraform and CDK scripting.

• Strategic Problem-Solving: Address complex system performance challenges, utilizing advanced analytical abilities to sustain reliability and efficiency.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, IT, or a related discipline; or equivalent practical experience.

• Over 5 years of experience in DevOps, showcasing proficient coding skills in Python.

• At least five years of experience delivering systems to production, focusing on Infrastructure-as-Code.

• Proven experience in writing and publishing reusable, tested modules or libraries for use by other teams and colleagues.

• Minimum of four years of experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery tools (e.g., Azure DevOps Services, GitHub Actions, etc.), with the ability to mentor other engineers in these practices.

• Experience in integrating security at the design phase, along with regularly assessing the effectiveness of security measures.

• Competence in conducting code reviews, managing pull requests, and adhering to source control standards such as Git Flow or Trunk-Based Development.

• Demonstrated experience in designing and delivering two or more infrastructure systems (e.g., Azure PaaS, Azure IaaS, Windows or Linux servers, SAN, Exchange, IIS, Active Directory, Azure AD, etc.) with automation and centralized configuration management.

• Familiarity with multiple database technologies, including platforms, authentication, and connectivity, with the capability to write more complex SQL queries.

• Extensive knowledge of automation tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef), cloud platforms (AWS), and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).

• Advanced expertise in monitoring, logging (Prometheus, ELK), source control (Git), networking, security, and database management.

• Leadership abilities that enable mentoring, influencing cross-functional teams, and leading by example in a collaborative setting.

• Strong collaborative skills to work efficiently with cross-functional teams, fostering a culture of teamwork and cooperation.

• Exceptional English communication skills for clear and effective interaction with team members, stakeholders, and customers.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with a meticulous approach to identifying and resolving system issues promptly.

• Self-driven and detail-oriented, capable of working independently and under pressure while managing multiple priorities and deadlines efficiently.

• Experience in articulating technical concepts to technically proficient audiences.

• Proficient in systematic debugging to ascertain cross-service issues; capable of end-to-end pipeline automation, occasionally with assistance from senior engineers.

• Familiarity with Test Driven Development principles, methods, and tools, along with proven experience in unit testing, integration testing, and performance testing.

• Effective verbal and written communication skills.

• Availability for on-call support to address pending issues or problems that arise during non-business hours.

• Geographic flexibility to align with global market hours, primarily from 9 AM to 5 PM Eastern Time.
