This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Hungary.
• Take ownership of backend services throughout their entire lifecycle: design, implementation, testing, deployment, operation, and ongoing enhancement.
• Convert product and business needs into sustainable technical designs while effectively communicating risks and trade-offs.
• Create and implement secure, versioned REST APIs while maintaining OpenAPI contracts.
• Develop backend services utilizing Node.js and TypeScript with PostgreSQL/PostGIS.
• Design database schemas, manage transactions, create indexes, and perform backward-compatible migrations; optimize intricate SQL queries.
• Establish integrations with Kafka, AWS S3, GeoServer, and both internal and external APIs.
• Implement automated unit and integration tests and contribute to API contract, end-to-end, and performance testing.
• Enhance observability through structured logging, metrics, tracing, health checks, and actionable alerting.
• Troubleshoot defects and production incidents, engage in root-cause analysis, and execute preventive improvements.
• Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and manage containerized services on OpenShift/Kubernetes.
• Review merge requests, mentor engineers, and uphold engineering and quality standards.
• Maintain API documentation, document architectural decisions, and create operational runbooks.
• Utilize AI-assisted development tools responsibly while ensuring accountability for code accuracy, security, privacy, and maintainability.
• Significant professional experience with Node.js and TypeScript, including asynchronous programming, production debugging, and type-safe application design.
• Strong SQL and PostgreSQL expertise, encompassing data modeling, transactions, indexing, query-plan analysis, and connection pooling.
• Experience in designing and maintaining RESTful APIs and OpenAPI specifications.
• Familiarity with automated backend testing using Jest or Vitest and tools like Supertest.
• Practical knowledge of distributed systems and microservice design, including failure handling, idempotency, and backward-compatible interfaces.
• Experience with authentication, authorization, input validation, and secure backend development practices.
• Proven experience in operating production services, including monitoring, troubleshooting, and incident analysis.
• Ability to lead technical discussions, articulate trade-offs, provide constructive code reviews, and mentor peers.
• Professional working proficiency in English.
• Additional valuable experience with PostGIS, GeoJSON, coordinate reference systems, or other geospatial technologies.
• Additional valuable experience with Kafka and event-driven architecture.
• Additional valuable experience with AWS S3 and secure object-storage patterns.
• Additional valuable experience with Docker and OpenShift/Kubernetes.
• Additional valuable experience with Knex.js or similar SQL query and migration tools.
• Additional valuable experience with OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, Grafana, or structured logging platforms.
• Additional valuable experience with NGINX and API gateway or reverse-proxy configuration.
• Additional valuable experience with Python services or data-processing workflows.
• Additional valuable experience with GitLab CI/CD, API linting, container security scanning, and automated release pipelines.
