Senior Database Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Validate backup and recovery strategies to fulfill RPO/RTO goals for PostgreSQL and various DBMS environments.

• Ensure high availability and reliability within PostgreSQL AWS RDS/Aurora environments.

• Uphold database security through AWS IAM integration, parameter groups, and encryption protocols.

• Monitor workloads and query performance to ensure optimal system functionality.

• Effectively support the operational requirements of PostgreSQL environments hosted on AWS.

• Participate in the Database On-Call Rotation.

• Troubleshoot database issues at both SQL and engine levels; collaborate with development teams to find resolutions.

• Spot automation opportunities using scripting, cloud-native tools, or observability platforms.

• Conduct performance tuning utilizing EXPLAIN/EXPLAIN ANALYZE and various monitoring tools.

• Acquire and disseminate knowledge regarding Kondragunta’s diverse application data environments (SaaS, OLTP, reporting, warehousing).

• Optimize processes and create comprehensive documentation.

• Provide cross-training to team members on PostgreSQL and cloud DBMS technologies.

• Mentor new DBREs/DBAs on best practices.

• Broaden coverage to encompass additional DBMS technologies such as MySQL, SQL Server, DB2, MongoDB, Amazon Redshift, Neptune, DynamoDB, MemoryDB, ElastiCache/Redis, and Snowflake.

• Develop cross-platform DBMS expertise.

• Utilize AI-assisted analysis tools for root cause identification and observability.

• Contribute to reliability engineering efforts aimed at enhancing resiliency, automation, and operational efficiency.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent experience.

• Over 6 years of PostgreSQL DBA/DBRE experience in 24×7 production settings.

• Preferred experience with AWS RDS/Aurora PostgreSQL.

• Strong PostgreSQL administration experience in production (6+ years).

• Extensive experience with AWS RDS/Aurora PostgreSQL.

• Proficient in SQL and PL/pgSQL.

• Knowledge of backup/recovery strategies and HA/DR concepts.

• Familiarity with AWS security practices (IAM, KMS, encryption).

• Expertise in performance tuning and query optimization.

• Scripting skills for automation purposes (Python/Bash).
