Senior Database Administrator – Software

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Mexico.

📋 Description

• Data Pipeline Execution (ETL): Develop, oversee, and monitor effective ETL/ELT pipelines to aggregate data from various production AWS PostgreSQL instances into Snowflake for analytics and reporting.

• Advanced Query Auditing & Performance Tuning: Regularly audit SQL queries within our production systems. Identify complex bottlenecks, rewrite inefficient queries, enhance indexes, and adjust database configurations to guarantee optimal platform performance.

• Database Operations & Maintenance: Manage the daily health, backup strategies, security compliance, and scalability of our PostgreSQL (AWS RDS/Aurora) and Snowflake environments.

• Query Best Practices & Collaboration: Collaborate with Software Engineers to assess database schemas and queries prior to production deployment, serving as a reliable advisor on SQL best practices.

• Troubleshooting & Optimization: Act as the senior escalation point for database performance challenges, ensuring minimal downtime and high availability for our essential SMS services.

⛳️ Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in Database Administration, Database Engineering, or a data engineering role focused heavily on databases.

• PostgreSQL Expertise: Extensive hands-on experience managing and optimizing PostgreSQL databases, particularly within the AWS ecosystem (RDS or Aurora).

• Snowflake Proficiency: Solid experience with Snowflake, encompassing data loading, performance tuning, and warehouse cost management.

• Advanced SQL Profiling: Outstanding skills in query profiling, execution plan analysis (EXPLAIN), partition strategies, and index optimization.

• Hands-on ETL/ELT: Demonstrated experience in constructing and maintaining data pipelines using tools such as dbt, Airflow, AWS Glue, or custom Python scripting.

• Data Migration & Synchronization: Fundamental experience with AWS Data Migration Service (DMS) to transfer and continuously synchronize data between relational databases and data warehouses.

• Version Control: Complete proficiency with Git.
