Senior Database Administrator – Software

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Dominican Republic.

📋 Description

• Data Pipeline Execution (ETL): Develop, oversee, and track efficient ETL/ELT pipelines to aggregate data from various production AWS PostgreSQL instances into Snowflake for analytics and reporting.

• Advanced Query Auditing & Performance Tuning: Regularly audit SQL queries across our production environments. Identify complex bottlenecks, rewrite inefficient queries, optimize indexes, and adjust database configurations to guarantee optimal platform performance.

• Database Operations & Maintenance: Manage the daily health, backup protocols, security compliance, and scaling of our PostgreSQL (AWS RDS/Aurora) and Snowflake systems.

• Query Best Practices & Collaboration: Collaborate with Software Engineers to assess database schemas and queries prior to production, serving as a trusted advisor on SQL best practices.

• Troubleshooting & Optimization: Act as the senior point of contact for database performance concerns, ensuring minimal downtime and high availability for our core SMS services.

⛳️ Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in Database Administration, Database Engineering, or a data engineering role with a strong database focus.

• PostgreSQL Expertise: Extensive hands-on experience in managing and tuning PostgreSQL databases, particularly within the AWS environment (RDS or Aurora).

• Snowflake Proficiency: Solid background working with Snowflake, encompassing data loading, performance tuning, and cost management of data warehouses.

• Advanced SQL Profiling: Outstanding capabilities in query profiling, execution plan analysis (EXPLAIN), partition strategies, and index optimization.

• Hands-on ETL/ELT: Demonstrated experience in constructing and maintaining data pipelines using tools such as dbt, Airflow, AWS Glue, or custom Python scripting.

• Data Migration & Synchronization: Essential experience utilizing AWS Data Migration Service (DMS) for transferring and continuously synchronizing data between relational databases and data warehouses.

• Version Control: Complete proficiency with Git.

• Nice to Have Skills:

• Experience in Python scripting and automation.

• Familiarity with CDC technologies (Debezium, AWS DMS, Fivetran, etc.).

• Background with real-time streaming platforms (Kafka, Kinesis, etc.).

• Understanding of compliance frameworks such as TCPA, CTIA, and SOC 2.

• Bash/Shell scripting experience.

• Knowledge of monitoring and observability tools (Datadog, CloudWatch, Grafana, etc.).
