Senior Database Administrator

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.

📋 Description

• Assist in the design and execution of both relational and NoSQL databases.

• Conduct essential database administration functions, including upgrades, patching, performance tuning, backups, troubleshooting, and support.

• Work alongside application development teams to test, enhance, and resolve issues related to database-driven applications.

• Contribute to daily operational tasks that affect vital IT processes and systems.

• Create scripts and tools to automate repetitive database tasks (non-development role).

• Oversee database environments (production, test, development) to guarantee performance, scalability, and availability.

• Facilitate the deployment of Verisk products in both on-premises and cloud environments.

• Aid in enterprise security, auditing, and compliance efforts.

• Provide mentorship to junior DBAs on best practices and emerging trends.

• Maintain professional communication during all collaborations.

• Participate in on-call rotation and provide occasional off-hours support to meet service level agreements (SLAs).

• Keep up-to-date with industry trends through ongoing learning and professional development.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent experience.

• Over 5 years of database administration experience across various DBMS platforms.

• Extensive experience with cloud databases, especially AWS RDS, and 24/7 high-availability environments.

• Practical expertise with databases like PostgreSQL, MongoDB, MySQL, SQL Server, Oracle, DynamoDB, or Elastic.

• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot database issues (performance, integrity, replication, connectivity, security, etc.).

• Strong understanding of backup, recovery, performance tuning, and overall database health management.

• Experience in implementing high availability solutions (clustering, replication).

• Proficient with enterprise database tools and Unix/Linux environments (scripting is a plus).

• Excellent communication, mentoring, and problem-solving abilities.

• Fluent in English (both written and spoken).
