Senior Data Solutions Architect

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Deliver extensive technical knowledge and leadership across various cloud data technologies.

• Oversee the design and execution of data platforms to fulfill customer business needs.

• Facilitate whiteboard design sessions with both internal and external teams.

• Recognize and communicate potential technical risks as they arise during project execution.

• Collaborate closely with Principal Consultants to gather project requirements during technical discovery sessions, outline deliverables to meet those requirements, and decompose those deliverables into a technical roadmap.

• Direct teams of data engineers to implement project roadmaps.

• Offer guidance on technical tasks, setting priorities, and providing technical assistance when necessary.

• Manage project scope within customer engagements.

• Identify evolving requirements as they surface, assess their impact on scope, and ensure all stakeholders are informed and in agreement about the changes.

• Maintain a strong working relationship with customers, acting as a "Trusted Advisor."

• Build credibility and forge impactful relationships with our clients.

• Design comprehensive data solutions on Microsoft Fabric, covering Lakehouse, Data Warehouse, Real-Time Intelligence, and Data Factory components.

• Conduct technical design sessions and create architectural artifacts: solution designs, data flow diagrams, and runbooks.

• Develop and enhance data pipelines using Azure Data Factory and Fabric Data Engineering workloads.

• Establish and enforce data governance frameworks — policies, stewardship models, and access controls — utilizing Microsoft Purview.

• Implement end-to-end data lineage tracking, ensuring complete auditability throughout ingestion, transformation, and consumption layers.

• Define data quality rules and establish monitoring and remediation processes across OneLake and downstream analytics layers.

• Collaborate with data product owners, engineers, and business stakeholders to convert requirements into scalable platform designs.

• Advocate for best practices in CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code (Bicep / Terraform), and DevOps within the Azure data domain.

• Provide technical mentorship to engineering teams and contribute to the development of internal standards and reusable accelerators.

⛳️ Requirements

• 7+ years of experience in data or solutions architecture roles with hands-on delivery (not solely advisory) (Azure preferred)

• In-depth, practical knowledge of Microsoft Fabric — Lakehouse, Warehouse, Pipelines, Notebooks, and OneLake

• Strong expertise across the Azure data stack: ADF, Synapse Analytics, Azure Databricks, ADLS Gen2, Azure SQL

• Proficiency in Python and/or Spark (PySpark) for data transformation, along with SQL for analytical workloads

• Practical experience with Microsoft Purview for data cataloging, lineage, classification, and governance policy implementation

• Demonstrated ability to establish data quality frameworks (expectations, anomaly detection, lineage-aware testing)

• Experience in developing complex data engineering pipelines and ETL/ELT processes

• Familiarity with relational databases (such as Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, Postgres, MariaDB) or managed cloud RDBMS services (like Amazon Aurora)

• Experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB, Cassandra, CouchDB, ElasticSearch, Neo4j, DynamoDB, BigTable, etc.

• Experience in building batch processing and real-time processing systems.

• Proven experience in constructing Data Warehouses, Data Lakes, and unified analytics platforms (utilizing tools like Microsoft Fabric, Snowflake, or Databricks).
