Senior Data Scientist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Japan.

📋 Description

• Enhance current supervised fraud detection models (mainly XGBoost) through feature engineering, optimization, and assessment.

• Create and execute unsupervised and semi-supervised anomaly detection models (e.g., ECOD, Isolation Forest, clustering techniques).

• Investigate ensemble methods that integrate anomaly signals, supervised outputs, and business guidelines.

• Examine fraud trends in FNOL (First Notice of Loss) and subsequent claims lifecycle data.

• Innovate new modeling concepts for emerging fraud trends (such as temporal anomalies, behavioral shifts, and structural inconsistencies).

• Assess bias, stability, and reliability of fraud scores and assist in threshold calibration.

• Collaborate with engineering to deploy models in AWS and Snowflake environments.

• Provide customer-facing analysis and explanations, including discussions in Japanese when necessary.

• Clearly document findings, assumptions, and trade-offs for both technical and non-technical audiences.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of professional experience in data science or applied machine learning, particularly in fraud detection, risk analysis, and anomaly detection is preferred.

• Practical experience using XGBoost (or similar tree-based models).

• Hands-on experience with unsupervised anomaly detection techniques.

• Advanced Python skills (including pandas, numpy, scikit-learn, and ML pipelines).

• Experience handling large tabular datasets in production environments.

• Strong SQL skills and experience with data querying and modeling in Snowflake.

• Knowledge of AWS (including S3, IAM, compute services), with experience in SageMaker being a plus.

• Excellent communication skills in both Japanese and English (reading, writing, and speaking).

• Comfortable working with partially labeled data, noisy data, or evolving datasets.
