Senior Data Platform Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Design and develop a comprehensive data platform — integrate our current tools and pipelines into a unified, scalable architecture that serves the entire organization.

• Manage data pipelines and SLAs from start to finish, ensuring reliable data transfer between systems with clear expectations and well-defined metrics.

• Establish and oversee data contracts that safeguard downstream analytics from disruptions caused by upstream changes, setting the standards for the team's development.

• Influence the data strategy and platform roadmap — explore new technologies, assess trade-offs, and implement tools and frameworks as the platform matures.

• Implement observability across the platform — robust monitoring and telemetry to allow teams to assess system health and troubleshoot efficiently.

• Collaborate with Product, Compliance, and Security on data governance, balancing user requirements with regulatory obligations.

• Engage in an on-call rotation to support production data systems.

⛳️ Requirements

• A proven history of constructing and managing data platforms in fast-paced or early-stage settings — you have prior experience and know what excellence entails.

• Proficient coding skills in Python (preferred) and at least one of Java or Scala, with extensive knowledge of relational databases (particularly PostgreSQL) and practical experience with tools like Dagster, Airbyte, Airflow, and dbt.

• Expertise in infrastructure automation — experience with Terraform, Ansible, or similar tools, and familiarity with AWS or other major cloud platforms.

• Capability to design scalable data models and system architectures that effectively balance performance, cost, and governance.

• A self-motivated, solution-driven mindset — comfortable navigating ambiguity, proposing solutions with clear trade-offs, and executing with minimal supervision.

• A cooperative attitude — demonstrated experience collaborating across analytics, product engineering, compliance, and security to align architecture with business goals.

• An AI-centric workflow — you utilize AI coding assistants (such as Claude Code) as vital tools to streamline repetitive tasks, orchestrate multi-stage processes, and connect systems and services.

• Strong communication skills and availability to work collaboratively with a team.
