Senior Data Governance SME

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Articulate and promote the enterprise data governance vision, strategy, and roadmap in alignment with business goals and regulatory standards.

• Act as a thought leader internally and externally on topics related to data governance, data quality, metadata management, and data privacy.

• Establish and lead Data Governance Councils and executive decision-making forums.

• Coordinate with business, legal, compliance, security, analytics, and technology stakeholders.

• Design and implement operating models, workflows, ownership structures, stewardship programs, and escalation procedures for enterprise data governance.

• Create and uphold data classification, metadata standards, business glossaries, and frameworks for data catalogs.

• Develop and manage risk registers, control evidence, KPI reporting, and processes for issue remediation.

• Oversee data lifecycle, retention, and records management policies across data warehouses, data lakes, and cloud platforms.

• Direct enterprise data privacy initiatives and manage DPIAs, PIAs, and TIAs.

• Apply Privacy by Design principles to data platforms, applications, and analytics projects.

• Collaborate with legal and compliance teams on third-party data processing, cross-border data transfers, and readiness for regulatory audits.

• Define and implement data quality rules, KPIs, and frameworks for issue management.

• Supervise initiatives related to data lineage, data discovery, and data classification.

• Champion Master Data Management and Reference Data governance.

• Establish frameworks for AI Governance and Responsible AI.

• Manage governance of data assets across AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud environments.

• Lead governance efforts for data integration, migration, and transformation initiatives.

• Create and deliver executive dashboards and governance reports.

• Guide, mentor, and coach cross-functional teams ranging from 50 to over 200 members across multiple geographies.

• Drive governance for data and analytics integration in post-merger scenarios or large-scale projects across enterprise application portfolios.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 15 years of progressive experience in enterprise data governance, data management, and data privacy across various industries.

• Demonstrated ability to establish governance programs from the ground up and expand them across global organizations.

• Experience managing large global teams of 50 to over 100 members in matrixed, cross-functional settings.

• Proven success in post-merger data integration governance involving more than 50 enterprise systems.

• In-depth knowledge of DAMA-DMBOK, DCAM, or similar data governance frameworks.

• Proficiency with platforms such as OneTrust, Collibra, Alation, ServiceNow, or their equivalents.

• Practical experience with data warehouses, data lakes, and cloud services like AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.

• Familiarity with SQL and foundational data architecture concepts.

• Understanding of ERP, CRM, PLM, and enterprise application ecosystems.

• Expert-level knowledge of GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, HIPAA, GLBA, SOX, PCI-DSS, and emerging global privacy laws.

• Experience conducting over 150 privacy assessments, DPIAs, PIAs, and TIAs.

• Strong background in GRC frameworks and ensuring audit readiness.

• Exceptional ability to influence stakeholders across the C-suite, legal, compliance, engineering, and business sectors without direct authority.

• Strong skills in executive communication.

• Proven experience in creating and presenting governance scorecards, risk dashboards, and executive decision-making forums.
