
Senior Data Governance Engineer, Microsoft Purview

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Oversee the implementation of Microsoft Purview, including Data Map, scanning, classifications, glossary, lineage, and governance policies.
• Manage the onboarding and governance of data sources across Azure and hybrid/multi-cloud environments.
• Design and execute data governance frameworks that encompass data ownership, stewardship, and Critical Data Elements (CDEs).
• Establish data classification, sensitivity labels, and compliance controls (GDPR, CCPA, SOX, etc.).
• Create end-to-end data lineage to support analytics, reporting, and audit requirements.
• Collaborate with teams in data engineering, security, compliance, and business to integrate governance into data pipelines.
• Support metadata standards, stewardship workflows, and the adoption of data catalogs.
• Automate governance processes and monitor governance KPIs and metrics.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in Data Governance / Data Management.
• At least 2 years of practical experience with Microsoft Purview implementations.
• Solid understanding of metadata management, data lineage, data classification, and data stewardship.
• Experience with Azure data platforms including Azure Data Lake Storage (ADLS), Azure Synapse, Azure Databricks, Azure Data Factory (ADF), and Power BI.
• Capability to convert regulatory and business requirements into technical governance solutions.
• Excellent skills in stakeholder communication and collaboration.
• Preferred: Familiarity with other governance tools such as Alation, Collibra, Informatica EDC / Axon, and Atlan.
• Exposure to Master Data Management (MDM) tools like Reltio and Informatica MDM.
• Experience in automation using Python or APIs.
• Background in regulated industries such as Financial Services, Healthcare, or Insurance.
