Senior Data Engineer – PowerBI, Databricks

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Malta.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and maintain datasets, semantic models, and reports in Power BI for global claims reporting.

• Implement data modeling best practices, including star schema, claim-centric fact tables, and conformed dimensions.

• Create complex DAX measures to track claims KPIs such as incurred, paid, reserves, ultimates, and movements.

• Enhance report performance by optimizing model size, DAX efficiency, and implementing incremental refresh.

• Ensure the consistency of KPIs and definitions through a centralized data model.

• Utilize Azure Databricks (Delta Lake) as the main reporting data source.

• Assist in the design and implementation of curated data layers, such as silver and gold.

• Develop and support SQL/Spark-based transformations that meet reporting requirements.

• Ensure data quality, reconciliation, and traceability from source systems to reporting outputs.

• Collaborate with data product teams while adhering to platform standards and governance.

• Convert business reporting needs into scalable technical solutions.

• Participate in agile delivery processes, including backlog refinement, sprint execution, and documentation.

• Foster knowledge sharing and promote best practices within the team.

⛳️ Requirements

• Strong hands-on experience with Power BI, focusing on data modeling, DAX, and performance optimization.

• Demonstrated experience in creating enterprise-grade dashboards and semantic models.

• Practical knowledge of Azure Databricks, including PySpark and/or Spark SQL.

• Comprehensive understanding of Delta Lake and medallion architecture.

• Solid foundation in data warehousing and BI architecture principles.

• Experience dealing with large, complex datasets in a reporting context.

• Capability to work independently in a multi-stakeholder, international environment.
