Senior Data Engineer – Data Architecture, Modeling

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Design and manage data marts that encompass operational, advertising, and telemetry data, tailored for analytics, reporting, AI, and operational applications.

• Ingest and process high-volume event data originating from client applications, ad technology platforms, stitching services, ad servers, and telemetry pipelines.

• Clean, harmonize, and integrate data from various systems featuring differing schemas, identifiers, grains, and timing, resulting in conformed dimensions and shared definitions (such as users, sessions, devices, content, campaigns, impressions).

• Connect identity and sessions across client, server, and ad-side events to facilitate precise analytics for users, content, and revenue.

• Diagnose data issues from start to finish—tracing anomalies from dashboards back through data marts, transformations, and raw event logs—while implementing permanent solutions.

• Create, maintain, and enhance visualizations in collaboration with analysts and stakeholders, ensuring that dashboards are accurate, efficient, and reliable.

• Set data quality benchmarks—testing, monitoring, alerting, and freshness and volume SLAs—to identify issues before they reach stakeholders.

• Document datasets, lineage, and business logic, empowering consumers across analytics, product, and ad operations to self-serve with assurance.

• Collaborate closely with analysts, data scientists, ad operations, product teams, and source-system owners to convert business inquiries into robust data models.

• Develop and enhance underutilized or new data sets, both internally and externally.

• Analyze intricate and large datasets to identify patterns and generate actionable insights, as well as to create new initiatives aimed at improving business KPIs such as usage and revenue, while defining new metrics and KPIs to monitor these initiatives.

• Work collaboratively with all business functions to foster transparent, data-driven decision-making.

• Contribute to the identification of daily variances across various platforms.

• Lead investigations and analyses for complex strategic projects.

• Collaborate cross-functionally on enterprise-wide initiatives with Engineering, Broadcast Operations, Finance, Business Intelligence, and Data Engineering teams to enhance performance and profitability.

• Research and disseminate information regarding the latest tools and best practices.

• Mentor engineers and analysts on SQL, modeling, event data, and engineering best practices.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Economics, Statistics, or a related technical discipline.

• Over 5 years of experience in data engineering, specifically in building production pipelines and data models.

• Proficient SQL expertise, including performance optimization for large event-scale datasets.

• Significant experience with cloud warehouses/lakehouses (Snowflake, BigQuery, or Databricks).

• Familiarity with handling JSON, Parquet, and other file types.

• Proficient in Python for data processing and pipeline development.

• Experience using dbt (or an equivalent transformation framework).

• Familiarity with orchestration tools such as Airflow.

• Practical experience with high-volume event data—including clickstream, telemetry, ad impressions, or similar—covering deduplication, handling late-arriving data, sessionization, and schema evolution.

• Thorough understanding of dimensional modeling, star/snowflake schemas, slowly changing dimensions, and data mart design.

• Proven success in harmonizing data across multiple source systems with conflicting schemas, identifiers, or grains.

• Experience in troubleshooting data quality issues throughout the entire stack—from BI tools to warehouses and raw event logs.

• Comfortable working directly with BI tools (DOMO, Looker, Mode), both in their usage and in supporting their development.
